I can highly recommend this game. It is by far better than Spellforce 3. But also get Spellforce 3 because all those new mechanics are coming to Spellforce 3 too.. A proper sequel/standalone it reworks each faction a tad, and streamlined the units and made each more unique Skill balancing was reworked too, its more balanced now, (i still miss my necromancer archer though) the campaign is great too and they're even planning on releasing the original campaign again only two downsides exist - minor bugs are present - some units were removed, (humans lost the militias and the halberds) Overall a good game, highly recommended. Fantastic so far. Absolutely fantastic. I'm personally practically in love with the RPG systems in place. You pick two of the 9 classes to make a character, each class has different things you might want from it. One side of a tree might be different than the other side of it. Light magic has healing/buffs and on the other side has anti undead and some holy magic nukes. Offensive tactics isnt just for warriors, it has passives that help ANY class with skill power, focus regen. I just keep reading small things in skill tooltips and think "Man that would make a cool combo with x class". Something that makes me want to tinker with tons of characters is that. Every unique two classes you put together to make a character gives a unique skill. So Necromancer/demonologist makes a giant flesh golem. Wizard/archers get explosive arrows. Offensive/defensive warriors get reposte and gain crit chance after blocking attacks (or something like that, might not be blocks) The stats are a little versatile as well Strength doesnt just give you damage. It increases health regen and base physical resistances. Is also required for some equipment. Dex doesnt just give ranged damage. It gives damage on daggers and spears, crit and block chance. And it also gives skill cooldown reduction. Int. Is a little more straight forward, skills that are based on int scale with int, but also gives focus regen. Willpower gives magic resistance, willpower based skill power, max focus (and maybe focus regen too, cant remember. But with these systems in place, theres so many different ways you can approach each class. I currently have a dex tank maxing shield block chance and taunts. A willpower melee dps druid/warrior and my main character is a bard/priest that also uses heavy armor and a greatsword. The rpg system is just SO well done. So much flexibility, so many compliments in different corners of each class that go with thinks you wouldnt think of upon glancing over them the first time. I'm having fun with the campaign as well so far. Still on the first "big" mission where you have actual rts vs rts battles. It's taking a while and I'm having a decently fun time hording units and attack moving them. From what I have available so far there's not TOO much microing you need to do for pve at least. Double click a unit type and press their hotkey to get all units to use that ability. Its neat seeing all my axemen hold their shields up and stop taking damage from the enemy archer fire. Not sure how well the game pans out in the long run, but I had my hands on the other game and this one just seems to not suffer from the shortcomings of the previous title. Havent tried MP, hopefully the hero classes in that arent boring like last time too. Either way, this games great. And for its price point I cant see a fault in it really.. This game is is wonderful. I love the graphics the beautiful music and the sound design. Cannot wait to see the corruption of the circle, the runewars and maybe the lore of Hokan Ashire done with those graphics, character design and storytelling. The conversations with your fellow group members are so well written and acted. Also character design is top notch. Sometimes I just stand in a cave or on a hill and enjoy the breathtaking graphical love for details and move the camera around to find the best view. RPG and RTS parts are well mixed and I have a very good time with both of it. The whole lore of spellforce has such a big potential and gave me shivers ever since I played the first part 12 years ago. I wish you good fortune in the wars to come THQ. P.S. Also if you hate moles you will love this game.. 15 dollars, are you kidding me? As you enter the game, you are introduced to a beatiful soundtrack. Then you continue and understand they improved on many things. Can someone from THQ do a proper marketing campaign for this title? It's so sad that this game is not listed among the best modern cRPGs, because it's simply of high, high quality.. THQ is back! And brings back AAA RTS quality we didn't see since Dawn of War Dark Crusade or The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2. The developer did wonderful and faithful implement the feedback of the community. You are going to experience here 5 unique and different factions, with a really neat advanced base build and huge armies. A game for everybody, old school veterans, till new players. If you are learning to play RTS games, the game does offer a really cool feuture to play Co-op with AI, so the AI does help you manage your base and lead the army. This way I can even as pro gamer play vs my casual friends. I really like how they did improve upon the base build, its really nice and fluent.
