The Class 390 is one of the fastest electric multiple units operating in Britain. The set can reach 140 mph, whilst featuring tilting train technology to allow higher speeds around bends. At present, the Class 390 operates along the West Coast Main Line and is well-known to commuters and railfans alike for its sleek looks and high performance. In 2006 a Class 390 set a new speed record along the West Coast Main Line, completing the 401-mile trip from London to Glasgow in 3 hours and 55 minutes, and in usual operation the sets will run up to 125mph where track conditions allow. The Class 390 for Train Simulator recreates the smooth high performance well-known to drivers on the West Coast Main Line, and features a realistic tilting function which mimics the action of the real thing.

Where do we begin?

The cab detail is pretty good and poor visibility one gets from the driving seat of a real Pendolino is well illustrated.

So what's wrong with it? For starters, the Virgin Trains livery (which appears in the 390 folder on the C Drive by default) is missing from inside Train Simulator. I have tried custom installing the livery from a third party but it was not playing ball.

The Pendoino is designed to tilt; which in real life helps round corners but in the game, can cost you a thousand points in just 20 miles of driving on the WCML North route.

Finally, I am a self confessed sound freak and like to look at sound packs from Armstrong Powerhouse. It's a shame they don't as of yet have a sound pack because the ones that came with this are aweful.. terrible dlc because

Taking the controls of these class 390 is more relaxing and easy than a class 86, but at high speeds you cannot loose concentration. Know your braking distances and you will control the massive horsepower of these modern trains.
The sound especially is pretty good, except the horn. Shame there isn't more interactive controls in-cab.. A good bit of DLC. It handles nicely and is fast. Shame the buttons are not pressable with only one light setting. Would be nice to have the Virgin Livery Without Downloading reskins. A good reskin is from DP Simulation. This is an amazing train BUT... many of the included career scenarios are all but impossible to complete unless you want to spend the time saving and reloading all the way from Gretna to Motherwell because in career mode even non EPS speeds will see your score wiped out by penalties and to get round the various bends like Elvanfoot curve etc you have to drop to absurd speeds of 70mph whilst you in a class 86 could go round the same bends considerably faster without incurring one penalty.

Yet saying that, in standard mode, it is still a very sleek, very powerful train, far better in my opinion than the Voyager or 801, a shame the speed set control doesn't auto brake like other ones e.g. class 91, 90 etc does on speed set control but it is a very well modelled, superb crafted train set nevertheless and in other liveries looks gorgeous.

If you are a points and medal zealot like myself then this will frustrate you in career mode but still in other modes it is a pleasure to drive, very predictable and my one hope is that DTG will pay some lurve to this, add more functionality to the train, fix the drive quality issues and bring it into the realm of an updated 2015 ready unit.. I bought this purely for the experience of driving a tilting train, looking forward particularly to the sweeping curves of the Northern Fells and Scottish borders on the WCML. Imagine my disappointment then, after driving several slow speed scenarios around the outskirts of Glasgow, when I find myself on a long Northbound run to Glasgow and that you cannot exploit the tilting system to allow high speed travel around bends!! The drive quality parameters for this model are absolutely ridiculous, you are penalised many hundreds of points whilst negotiating bends at speeds well below the allowed maximum. You can travel faster in a standard non-tilting train and receive no penalty.
The most annoying thing about all this is that people have been complaining since 2012 and yet nothing has been done about it. I'm sure all it needs is a small coding alteration to re-set the drive quality parameters. Presumably this will not happen now? I feel like I have been robbed!. Fast powerful
