First I will say this is clearly an early access game and in a few areas it shows. It is fully playable with no fatal crashes I have ever found. I have played solo and with a friend. Server connection works great and after a bit of trial and error we figured out what to do. The "no tutorial" complaints are valid as most of my time was spent figuring out what to do or how to do it, however I think its more meant to be a tutorial through talking with people in the old city.
The comparison between this game and Minecraft is honestly silly for anyone who has even launched the game. The textures are more compared with Ashen's art style, but characters have faces.
The comparison with Skyrim is a bit more valid, crafting feels similar in a way with the equipment leveling going from leather to steel to the next tier.
I can not say I can compare this game fully with anything else though. Closest I have ever played is Planet Explorers, but that is a stretch.
Pros-
Amazing artistic graphics
Open world with no loading screens after the first startup
Fun to just wander and let your mind free. You can easily say "I want to go here" and nothing is stopping you
Awesome feeling of swinging a sword or mining, everything feels like it flows very well.
Large world with beautiful design. Its fun to crest a hill and see what looks like a Japanese anime scene on the other side
Great combination between relaxing and stressful when your wandering and get attacked by a massive spider or Night Hunters.
Villages are amazingly well designed with dynamic building and upgrading
Characters feel like they are slowly coming alive, as in they are not finished being animated, but I can tell they are working on it.
Cons-
Bugs are present, but nothing game breaking. Mostly just things not working correctly such as villagers not returning goods.
In a small way linear building pattern. Its a "Build this to build the next thing" in village and construction.
Not a lot of customization options, nothing setting one person apart from another I.E. not many different weapons or armor.
Villages could use a bit more functionality, but they work very well for where they stand now
No easy way to get HP back other than empty your gold. 10\/10 You can kill your friends and take all their stuff
- You can play chicken fight with your friends
- Squad with your friends and kill other friends
- Squad with your friends and kill enemies
- Squad with your friends and hunt
- Squad with your friends and go on a looting spree
- Squad with your friends and do quests together
- Squad with your friends and solve puzzles
- Delve into caves with your friends
- Play hide and go seek with your friends
- Chop down trees with your friends
- Laugh at your friends when they get stuck and can't move
- Laugh at your friends when they die from falling
- Get stuck running around at night scared to death with your friends
- Swim with your friends and even drown with your friends
- Build with your friends and destroy with your friends
- Live with your friends and die with your friends
If you have no friends, there are plenty of NPCs and animals to talk to. Game is an absolute gem.. You would think that the terrible graphics this game has it would run well on anything but nope, my i5 doesnt run it so can not play with the wife since our second computer was just that, had if i was lucky 35fps . 60fps would be nice but for those graphics the buffering was absolutely terrible . look at the graphics man . i fell threw the world in the first 10 minutes and got a refund lmao terrible .
note: the other 20 minutes i spent trying understand why you would put a game out that doesnt even have the ground finished enough to stand on? and laughing at my stuck body ... there was lots of that. I love everything about this game:
-Atmosphere
-Low poly modern art
-Skills and difficulty
-deep town building
Can't wait for full release!. An unoriginal mess of half-baked systems. Environments are unnecessarily cluttered. Glitchy movement. Boring character progression that is all about incremental bonuses (+5% damage) rather than new abilities. Not worth the price of entry currently.
I'll be checking back in six months as I think the devs hearts are in the right place, but the game needs serious work.. First of all, do not be fooled by the simplistic art-style of the game.
> It may be lowpoly and use almost no textures, the effects however are quite nice and the package as a whole works well.
The same thing is also true for the gameplay: Most of the gameplay elements are kept rather simple but that is made up by the sheer amount of different gameplay elements.
The game to me feels a bit like a 3d version of some of the very early RPG games, which is strangely refreshing.
This also means that the game usually won't hold your hand and you'll occasionally have to figure out things the hard way.
Multiplayer seems interesting, especially due to the ability to build you own settlements but I haven't experience a lot of it yet due to the currently rather low population on most servers.
To sum it up: It is a well playable, fun little game that is bigger on the inside and holds a lot of promise for the future. (the devs seem to be pretty active too). The base of the game as it stands now is very good! It has the beginning of something that can grow into a great game.
Lot of stuff needs to be added! Lot more quests and more depth into the whole settlement building side of the game.
it needs:
- more npcs
- more in depth movement and interaction for the npcs
- hostile npc settlement depth
- more depth in managing your own settlement
- more quests
- more puzzles
- diplomacy between player settlments
as can expected some things need to get better
- bugs
- getting stuck in buildings and water
- not being able to hurt a hostile / not being able to do damage
- npcs getting stuck in stuff
- your own character getting stuck. My playtime is short, yes, and I am going to keep the game regardless of my time with it thus far in hopes it improves. The devs' hearts are in the right place, but it seems like the development time since 2015 has been a wasted effort.
-The land is large enough, yes, but the problem occurs when you have to travel needlessly far for a fetch quest, just to run that whole distance back.
-Combat is clunky. The swings seem wide and awkward while the dodging is dodgy at best. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No matter at what point in time I dodge, it seems I'm being hit regardless. You can find a shield early on in the game, but you can't use it without a skill, yet you can use swords easily enough without a skill. Same with a bow; you must find a hunter and pay to learn how to use a bow, which any moron can learn on their own.
-Armor and weapon choices are very limited.
-Building menu is unintuitive.
-No keybindings yet.
-Glitch where your created solo worlds don't show up on the menu even though they [are] there.
-Terrain generation issues where you'll fall in a pit and cannot get out of it without doing /spawn, which will take you back to the room you first start the game in. If you need to go to town then it's useful, albeit a cheap method of travel, but if you're nowhere near town and your destination is farther away yet then it's very detrimental to traveling. Thankfully, however, you keep all of your items.
-Crafting for iron items will say you need [Iron] but what is actually used are [Iron Nuggets], which can be confusing to people finding a way to smelt nuggets into ingots thinking that's what you need to do.
-Want to saw your own planks? Nope. Pay someone else to do it for you, whether it's someone in a pre-existing town or one you created. You are incapable of it yourself.
-It seems the world is almost devoid of life, minus from marked locations. I barely had any resistance going from point A to point B from local wildlife. Took me a good bit going [out of my way] to find wolves for meat.
-Skills system seems borked. If you learn your own character skills, it's limited to percentage increases on certain things or a full value increase of something in some way. It's not bad, but it's shallow. Only 2 character skills I saw gave you an actual ability to do something, which leaves me sorely wanting.
-Dungeons are.. meh. Seriously meh. The first "dungeon" you find is a mine that you're directed to if you speak to everyone in the Old City and it's not even one minute long with a quested boss fight at the end. The only flipside? It seems nuggets don't take long at all to respawn, which could make it to where you don't have to travel far for any kind of crafting, which most will consider a bad thing, myself included.
The game isn't inherently bad, it's just badly designed and it seems like the 4 years they've taken into building this game up have been.. wasted. There are some good things but it doesn't seem like the few good points really outweigh or justify playing against the bad. I'm going to keep playing regardless since I've already bought it and I have a lot to physically explore, but I'm hoping to find things that change my tune about the game. If you're interested in The Warhorn, I'd give it a hard pass until actually meaningful things are done to it, mostly the clunky combat.
Edit - This is the only game in my entire library that has actually caused my PC to shut completely down. Three times, in fact. Yeah, I'd give The Warhorn an obscenely wide berth.. 6/10 to sum it all up its like Minecraft and Skyrim had a baby. 3 years later Minecraft tells skyrim he ain't the baby daddy...Ouch...;). I was super against buying something like this to begin with. I felt it was not advanced enough to play. TOTALLY WRONG. First of all I want to say if you are a minecraft\/zelda player you will like this! Its actually kinda addicting and as soon as my boy and I bought it we could NOT stop. We played a straight 14 hours. It was insane. The maps\/mazes\/dungeons are amazingly beautiful and planned out. I feel it needs a lot more to do and a lot more materials to add. I LOVE the way they have the tree cutting system in place its very nice.
My only complaint is the Crafting system and Combat system.
Crafting Issues: My boy is the owner of the server we play on, he built our little city. It costs him money to craft objects but does not cost me anything. (a little odd but funny)
Combat: we can turn pvp off in our server but at this point I have killed him more times than he has killed me while fighting in dungeons. So it doesnt work.
The TPing system is a little strange, he can TP me and TP to me but I cant TP to him at all.
I dont normally comment on games at all to be honest but this was worth it. Its got a few scare jumps keep you on your toes (awesome)
Its got something for everyone.
I wish the Leveling tree was much bigger and there was more crafting to do! I hope they implement things like Fishing, More Magic, More Combat such as spears and dual weapons, more achievements, new tiers and stages of buildings, Female character models, scuba diving, exploration, town banks, pirates, butchers and hunters, jails, music creations. (I have not finished the game by any means so some of this may actually be in there and im not aware of it!)
The game is worth it! Play with significant other or friends, its way more fun!
DevLog #2:
Hello everyone!
For the past two weeks we have been working on very important bug which caused game crash when joining servers. It was very stresful time because we have fixed all the small bugs in the game and we've added new things, but we really wanted to fix that bug for the next update. For now it seems that it will be okay. We will see how it will work out in the next official build, but right now it seems that the crash problem is gone. We are now preparing everything for the next update.
We have also managed to optimize the game. Loading times when creating/joining the game, will be up to 40% shorther. You will also notice more FPS in some places (up to 10 FPS).
If you have any questions or suggestions about the game join the server!
