Two streetwise cops bust criminals in their red-and-white Ford Torino, with the help of police snitch, Huggy Bear.
Tough Starsky and educated Hutch are plainclothes cops taking on dope dealers, muggers and other thugs, aided by their red 1974 Torino and informant Huggy Bear. Both bachelors' private lives play as interweaving threads in the drama.
Starsky and Hutch is not the greatest cop show ever. There have been some great cop shows over the years. There have also been some rubbish cop shows. Starsky and Hutch falls in between. It isn't bad but it isn't as memorable as most cop shows.

Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul do a great job as the handsome detectives patrolling the streets. Also, who can forget the irascible Captain Dobey (played by Bernie Hamilton) and the detectives informer Huggy Bear (played by Antonio Fargas).

Starsky and Hutch had some exciting plots throughout plus plenty of action, women and car chases. I think the main problem was the glut of cop shows at the time. The 70's seemed to have a glut of cop shows and some of the good ones like this got lost amongst all the others. I would however certainly recommend the show to any youngsters out there who haven't seen it. I am 14 years old and Starsky and Hutch is my favourite show ever! It is simply FANTASTIC! I love it. Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul have amazing chemistry and are superb actors. The friendship between Starsky and Hutch is wonderful as well and makes the show much more enjoyable to watch.I don't think there has ever been a show before or since which shows such a special and unique friendship- it is what separates it from other cop shows-Starsky and Hutch is NOT about the car,or the guns etc...in the end, it is all about the friendship.

Wonderful other characters- Huggy Bear, Dobey etc make it even better and pull the show together. Other older shows have got old fashioned or the acting is poor, but Starsky and Hutch is, I would say, a million times better than TV shows on telly now. I am hoping that they do the re-union with Paul and David- and so are hundreds and hundreds of other fans! Starsky and Hutch rule forever!
-In the pilot Starsky uses a 1911A1 style pistol and Hutch a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver. Early in the episode, while going over their checklist of items, Starsky's gun is referred to as a Beretta, but that is not what he is using. By the time of the regular series Starsky has swapped to a Smith and Wesson model 59 in 9mm and Hutch a Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver. In the first couple episodes, he used a Python with a 4" barrel and then began using a 6" Python for the remainder of the series. Previously, David Soul's vigilante cop character in the Dirty Harry film "Magnum Force' used a Colt Python with a 4" barrel. ?
