postmortem one must die (extended cut)

This feels very much in line with a lot of the free games out there. It's glitchy in context recogniton, lacks detail in gameplay but makes up in one significant aspect(Lore for this game). There is a ton of dialogue options and a lot written. Compared to other lore heavy indie games like Analogue: A hate Story or even say Shadowrun Returns(Not really indie I know) the dialogue is actually extremely sparse. You're given plenty of choices to respond but most are technically meaningless, serving to cement a feeling of individuality. While all this is fine, charging as much as it costs for what feels like an experimental work seems questionable. You can find similarly priced or free works with much higher amounts of lore, dialogue and interactivity without sacrificing the strong points of the dialogue, which in this case is clearly the stances people can take on subjects. I guess I don't have a problem with the game so much as what it's advertised. At it's price, described as a mix between the vastly different home, Walking Dead and Last Express it captures themes and elements but doesn't spend enough effort on any one effort to really cement any it. Seeing a badly photoshopped character in one portrait, sloppy resolutions on fonts and hopes of complex storytelling marred by poor followthrough. The fact that story progression is told by repeatedly talking to characters in between each other to gain further access to dialogue trees often pertaining to other characters. This is a game, but so much moreso an experiment in self expression and the creators exploration of moral shades of grey. It's just a shame that it's marketed as a 6.99 exploration into the heart of vastly more complex games when it deserves to be a beginning portfolio piece.. Its a very interesting game in which your actions and dialogue will affect how the story ends. Short, but very replayable.. the fact they were selling this for 7 dollars is obscene even though i only paid half price. i thought it had a good concept and nice art but it was INCREDIBLY short and i actually talked to everyone granted im sure they ment it for multiple replays but even still i was expecting multiple choices of who dies continually developing the plot over time. what i got was one choice then it ends and tells you the results of your conversations and who you choose...what a rip off. If they had gone to the trouble of actually having a progressing story i think this game could have had potencial(and this is the EXTENDED CUT...wtf was the normal cut like).. Interesting concept and setting. The characters felt real enough and it felt like the dialogue options gave me enough room to argue for different sides. But there really is not all that much content in the game. There are six characters that you can talk to in a very small map and it is not all that impressive. The idea is very interesting and the setting is nice but it could have been much more than it is.

I would guess that most people are going to be done with the game in under an hour. Those who are really interesting in seeing all the different sides and endings might get a hour or two more out of the game. If that is worth the money is up to you.

I did like the character art by the way.. If you long for reading RPG tect, this is the game for you!

Seriously though, great story for a passable game. It's good for a single play-through.. Fun, no perfect solution.. Even though the game specialized a lot in its reading, learning, conversing, convincing and storytelling aspects, it falls flat in its actual grim reaping aspect, apart from a short conversation with whatever victim of chosing, nomatter how you have interacted with them, what you tell them as they stand there facing death, nomatter your choice, the ending of the deceased one is always the same "Umm, Thank you, I guess..."

Dissapointing, here I was expecting doing actual reaping stuff, not having conversation, persuading people, and stuff.

. I love this game. Its branching conversations remind me of the ones in games like Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex, The Walking Dead, and others like it--there's no "good" or "evil", just interesting decisions that leave me pondering my choices for long swaths of time.

The setting is great; it's timeless in its own way, as it tackles issues of modernization vs. tradition that have confronted societies throughout history. The author claims on his website that his career has nothing to do with his Masters degree in Comparative Ethnic Conflict, but it's clear to see its influence here. A delight for fans of history, moral ambiguity, and great characterization.

About the only thing I can knock this game for is its incessant pounding of "Canon in D" into my skull, but that can easily be switched off by setting the music volume to 0.
