About This Game

BossConstructor is a game about building and flying your own spaceship. Assemble your own ships from a number of components and explore procedurally generated galaxies!

Building your Ship

At the core of the game lies the ship editor. An editor that allows you to freely assemble your very own spaceships using a vast variety of (currently) over 60 modules. The way you build your ships determines how they behave and what they are capable of doing, and, as every module costs money, weight and energy, designing a good, efficient spaceship is a challenging yet rewarding task.

Expedition and Sandbox Mode

The expedition mode lets you explore a procedurally generated galaxy inhabited by the von-Neumann; a constantly evolving AI species. You begin with a small, basic ship and advance as you complete missions, discover new enemy species, and scavenge more powerful or exotic components to improve your ship with. Alternatively, you can always build any ship you like without any constraints in the sandbox mode.

Artificial Intelligence

Being a single player game, a lot of attention is being given to the game's artificial intelligence system. The von-Neumann enemies you will encounter in the expedition mode have been painstakingly created using elaborate artificial evolutions, in which vast numbers of mutating ships have competed for survival. Several bonus game modes allow you to lean back and watch just how different AI species compete with each other for survival and how each generation evolves.

FAQ

Q: Which are the supported platforms?
A: The game supports Windows, Linux, SteamOS and MacOS. Mac users do still need to manually install Java though (worry not, it's free).

Q: Will there be a multiplayer mode?
A: Unfortunately implementing multiplayer support is exceedingly complex. Therefore I am focusing on providing a solid single player experience instead.
Q: What types of ships can you build?
A: Any ship built with the available modules is valid as long, of course, as the modules do not overlap. You can build ships with moving parts as well as ships consisting of multiple ship parts (which can be controlled individually).

Q: How large can the ships be?
A: You can add modules to your ship as long as they fit within the editor's boundaries and its 14x14 grid (which can be expanded to 18x18 using the integrity enhancer module).

Q: How many module types are there?
A: There are currently over 60 module types in the game (not counting visual variations). More modules will be added in the future. If you like, you can suggest your own ideas and if enough players like them, I will be happy to incorporate them in the game.

Q: How does the artificial evolution work?
A: The artificial evolution works by simulating a huge tournament in which mutated versions of existing ships compete with each other. The most successful ships, i.e. the ships which have dealt most damage to their enemies, proceed to the next round while the losers are eliminated.

Q: Yeah, but should I buy it?!
A: Are you kidding? Absolutely! ;) If you enjoy being a part of constantly-updated games during their development process, BossConstructor might just be what you've been looking for! Please, do feel free to check out the reviews of other gamers or the forums. Also, do keep in mind that the latest changes in Steam's refund policy actually allow you to return the game should you not enjoy it. 7ad7b8b382

This game is fun but I find it can be a bit hard to play. My biggest issue is that when you destroy a ship, it doesnt have that nice feeling of blowing something up.

6/10. Awesome Dev
Buy to support!. Boss Constructor is a neat little game in active development. I had a problem getting it to run, and the dev had a patch to fix my issue within hours. Unheard of. Gameplay is solid and engaging, and the incentives to play another map are already strong. I can't wait to see how this game shapes up in the coming months. If you like space shootemups and you like builders, I strongly recommend giving this game a shot.. As of yet the interface is terrible, the controls terrible, the gameplay tedious and slow but the premise fantastic and the builder is nice.
This game plays like a slow paced three-way-mixed-heritage baby between Borderlands 1 (Loot rarity), Classic Asteroids (Physics simulated 2d spaceships) and Reassembly (spaceship building).
I will be looking out for this game hoping to see some exciting improvements.
. umm after the first time i played it, it started crashing like crazy. it was fun while it lasted.. This is a solid game with an amazing ship editing!. Wow... This is just an incredible ship-building game. So much detail, so many different options. My biggest complaint is there are so many parts, it's hard to know what to do with them. Some things, like joints, could really use some in-game explanation. Also, I had a very hard time with the first mission using Beta/Economy ship. Switched to Delta/Weapons and it was a breeze. Not sure if I picked a terrible combo to start, an "overpowered" combo the second time, or if the second combo just fits better with my playstyle, but I will say that if you're discouraged by the difficulty off the bat, try a different starting ship - it makes a big difference.. it's so-so, fun and frustrating, pretty well designed ish (love the direction but the timeframe is slow). It does have some save corruption issues and needs ALOT of polish but if you can get it on sale go for it. It's not worth full price as it stands imo. The dev releasing a new title while this one is not finished also bodes ill because the updates are already bi-yearly so the fixes and polish won't be ready by the time new titles come out an this one gets shelved. I'll be shelving this for Avorion which is already out and polished, starcom nexus will be out shortly and already looks better than this.. Awesome and Incredibly addictive little game. Lots of fun and potential in it for any dignified space shooting ship assembling geekster fan (like me self). For an Early Access game I have to say it's very well executed. Every thing runs smoothly and properly and apart from some labels and feedbak info still missing here and there it is apparent that a lot of care was put into it. It's a lot of fun assembling the amorphous ships and testing them in the 'field' and the set of parts available is quite enjoyable. It should be a very decent and wide scoped game once it leaves alpha/beta stage and comes out into a full fledged game. As of now, even while in Early Access, it is already very playable and worth every cent (and surely hours of fun).

Patch 189: Inventory module stacking, toggle modifier etc. [beta]:
New features:
- Modules of the same type/attribute now stack in the inventory.

- Missiles now use proportional navigation following aiyel's suggestion.
