About This Game

A bio-logical puzzle game

Your aim is to build a mysterious multicoloured substance known as tricone. To crack each level, you'll need to figure out the right sequence of interactions to bring each coloured piece together, changing the cell structure by breaking open walls or creating new divisions. You'll need to unlock resources then use catalysts to create the compounds you need. As you progress, new and unusual elements emerge and combine together inside shifting cell structures to challenge your lateral thinking.

About the developer

Partickhill Games Limited is a one-man indie gamedev operation based in Glasgow, Scotland. The one man is me, Josh Singer. In my day job I'm a bioinformatics research programmer at the Centre for Virus Research. I've developed tricone lab over several years in my spare time.

Drag various pieces to various locations for various effects and ultimately construct your tricones.
At first you wonder how much of a puzzle game it can really be, but as the mechanics build up and cell structure gets more complicated it can get really tricky by the later levels.

It does need Java to play which is irritating, and whenever I loaded it it always said it couldnt connect to server so I dont appear to have access to any additional content, but I rarely spend much time looking at user edited content, and the game has plenty of levels built in for the money you pay.

Ultimately its a a really quite unique, challenging, puzzle game with decent enough sound and graphics to get across the satisfying game play. A seemingly underappreciated gem amongst the budget puzzlers.. Tricone is a puzzle game that nearly ticks all the right boxes.

The good stuff:
This game is very easy to learn how to play, be it just through trial and erorr, or through the in-game descriptions. But once you get past the first few levels, things start to get challenging. The method of requiring you to complete certain levels does help to guide you through the learning process (by preventing you from getting in over your head and confused and annoyed), so the learning curve is well tuned.
The game also opens up quite a bit in terms of the variety and complexity of the operations that you have to make use of to solve the puzzles.
The graphics are great. It has a simple (but not totally flat) look to it, and it does feel very much like we're looking into biological cells, especially with the wiggle-vision type outlining of the cell membranes. Also, the fact that it all reacts to your movements gives it a nice fluid sensation while you solve the puzzles. The animation of some of the later nodes, like the 'anti-catalyst' feels very alive and organic, which is a good thing to see.
The sound design is all very nice, from the ambient music in the menus, to the sound that the elements you interact with make.

Things that need improvement:
It would be nice to see some sort of improvement to the community map downloader. Right now it seems as if you need to directly search for a known map, whereas it would be nice to be able to "browse" through them all directly.
I'm not really a fan of the game launcher. It does work perfectly fine, and it all makes sense, but to me it looks more like the UI of simulation software you'd see in a university course than the launcher for a game (it is visibly a 'java' UI). I think it should be skinned to match the ib-game UI, but this doesnt really affect the gameplay beyond initial configuration. I also think that some of the options could be moved into an in-game options UI, rather than being in the launcher, but this is very much just personal preference.. Best game ever :D But it need trading cards. After trying it out a bit, I can recommend this game. It is a nice little puzzler that starts out easy and gets increasingly more difficult, while adding new elements to the mix. Enough level are there to make it interesting, and you can even make your own and share them!. Though got a crash in first minute, the game works fine set to native res.

A new approach to puzzles is really freshening. Fine interface for what is aimed, good atmosphre with the animation and music.

No-brainer to get at discount if you generally like puzzles.. Found this game through a friend of mine and saw him play it on his livestream so i managed to get my hands on a copy to stream my reaction and boy was it a good one. One very small issue i had and it could of been my system is it would not launch when "in game cursor" is turned on and when turned off it worked fine.

I like the concept of the game where you need to fuse those tri color thingies but with some obsticals in between. Now i am yet far in the game to know more about it but lets just say some puzzzle can really stump you if you don't think properly! You have to have an open mind and think outside of the box to solve certain levels. Took almost an hour and a half to do one particular level! Now others would laugh on how long it took to do what seemed a simple level now but not all brains are created equal #kappa.

The game lacks of a co-op mode but after thinking about it this game can be a collective thought type. For instance you are a livestreamer and viewers are giving hints or suggestions. Hell a lot of us were just as stumped and we all raged together but we seemed to pull through and solved the puzzles as one.

I've yet played with the editor but my friend did earlier tonight and the possibilites are endless if you are creative enough to make a hard but fun map. I may submit a few myself and can't wait to see what others made so far!

THIS GAME WILL MAKE YOU LOSE TRACK OF TIME! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!. I had a lot of fun playing this! I received the key for free and at first I thought it was going to be a boring puzzle game but it was actually rather fun. You have to try to connect and disconnect various cones and objects until you meet the required tricone count! Warning though, one slip up could make you restart!
