Global military spending is expected to increase by 2.9 percent in 2025, despite a 7.5 percent drop in US spending as President Donald Trump halted new military aid to Ukraine.

Reuters reported this, citing a report published on Monday by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), a conflict research institute.

According to SIPRI data, military spending increased to $2.89 trillion in 2025, continuing the 11th consecutive year of global military spending growth. This expenditure is 2.5 percent of global GDP, the highest since 2009.
