Switching from negative to positive just because of the developer's response, which was honestly more civil than my original, pre-edit review deserved. He's got a vision to address some of the customization deficits, and his responsiveness makes me want to give him the benefit of the doubt.] This is a game that could be good, even great, but too many flaws bugged me. Graphically, character models and animations are lacking. They went with. I don't know, something from the early 3D era (Playstation, 3DO, Dreamcast). There's a reason those games don't hold up well today, while many cartridge games from the prior gen still do. Environments are nice, but I just didn't like the character models at all. Maybe more outfits would help, but I really think it's something more fundamental than that. Gameplay is promising, but frustrated. On the map, everything is slower than it needs to be. Everything you do has a cutscene and no amount of button pressings will skip them. Even picking up quests at a station is cumbersome. Combat is middle of the pack in the genre, and really hampered by the lack-luster character advancement options. Also, stun-locking is a bad mechanic. Losing an AP is one thing, but complete stun is frustrating. Customization is weak. So far weapons and armor are just incremental improvements over each other (no armor to light armor to medium armor, each providing a +3 armor bonus and nothing else from the last upgrade. Yay.) You don't get to level up any stats, just choose 1 of a small collection of ho-hum skill perks. Ship upgrades are easily the most promising concept the game explores, but there's just not enough there to really be interesting. Don't come into this expecting FTL or Thea quality design. I appreciate what the devs tried here, and I won't ask for a refund, but man - these guys really should have spent some time at the drawing board.. Obviously haven't played a lot, but it definitely has that Xcom feel, and I love the stupid little quips the soldier's make, like the one about the stars in the sky being pixelated. By any chance, does anyone know if there's a way to rotate the camera? That's got to be my only complaint so far.. Early access. go find an awesome game for $10 dollars right now instead. I don't know why we all keep falling for this crap. A lot of people have compared it to xcom it isn't. For as badly hobbled together X-com has been lately it is a billion years ahead of this game and this guy wants 1/4th of their price point while giving 1/1000th of game quality. Cover is a joke. You dont need it you can just mow things down in open area youll be fine.Just stun, shoot, rinse, repeat. There is no impending chase. You can dither about as the redline catches up with you a very long time. Why do i know how much time you can waste on the side doing samey type things because the game has crashed on its third linear story mission 100% of the time. Every time. With out fail. New games. old games. Just more garbage at a $10 price point you dont need. Literally any other thing you could buy for $10 dollars would support a better craft than this one.Burning the money would give you more joy. I don't care that its a solo developer. Why should that be an excuse while you ask me to open my wallet. Even full on developed at the speed we are going now to be a game worth $10 dollars. or 1/2 a marvel movie ticket would be years away. This guy isnt going to complete this project to a useable standard. No way. I'd bet $10 dollars. and still have more fun having done it.. For now the game deserve a 3/10 , but the idea is good. It lack mission diversity for now , i feel like it miss so management option too , maybe more classes would be nice. But its a Early access , i trust the developers , pretty sure than one or two years from now this will be my favorite game. Please Don't abandon it , i trust you on this one.. Not impressed with how the movement works, and the camera constantly gyrating from centering to character movement is enough to give you motion sickness. Game also will not stay in the assigned windowed mode or size that is set. Game has little to no content as of yet. Feels like an early beta release before a demo tbh. UI control and camera needs an overhaul and I'll come back and try it more, for the time being I uninstalled it.. For now the game is barebone, but playable and actually fun. It even looks like the dev is not only listening to gamers, but actually making changes in a very quick time. I tryed the game for the first time about 4 days ago, when i bought it and i died very quickly in my fist fight. It was just a quick look from me, before going to sleep. Then i tryed the game again yesterday, and found out it made serious changes in many things and actually was for me more enjoyable. I can recommend the game it's fun and chalenging, but do understand it has a long way to completion. The price for now with the 40% discount is awesome, but i would say that the full price is ok as well, but it's very close to the roof, that i think this game can be worth. If you want you can watch first 30 or so minutes of a gameplay in video i made.
