To fight the tyranny, Robin becomes the leader of a band of outlaws with Will Scarlett, Allan A Dale, Royston White, Little John, and Djaq. Meanwhile, feisty Lady Marian inspires the love of both her childhood sweetheart Robin and the Sheriff's second-in-command Sir Guy of Gisborne. Later episodes find the addition of friends and foes such as Prince John, warrior monk Tuck, village girl Kate, Guy's sister Isabella, and mysterious Archer.
Really entertaining Saturday night viewing, I can't wait for the next one.

It is completely beyond me why people have reacted so strongly against this programme as I found it totally absorbing and well crafted.

The only possible criticism I can find is the start was a little slow and the constant subtitles as to the location was a bit annoying as I think we could probably have worked out when Robin was in Nottigham, Locksley, Sherwood Forest etc without the need of a caption.

Other than that the episode picked up pace nicely and led to a fabulous conclusion which I won't ruin.

Maybe it's because I'm too young to remember any previous adaptations of Robin Hood (apart from Maid Marion and the Disney one), or maybe its because I don't think of the Robin Hood story as particularly sacred, but I found it totally brilliant and I highly recommend it. I tried watching this a couple times over the years, but kept stopping at the first episode because it was just so bad. But then I carelessly started it again recently - as background entertainment while I worked on a sewing project - and ended up sticking with it (though only half-absorbed most of the time) all the way through. Richard Armitage was great, but his earnest attempt to make something of his character could get awkward in contrast with the bad writing (I'd sometimes cringe, or laugh, or both, thinking, 'poor Richard Armitage, what will they make him do next?'). Harry Lloyd was underutilized. I was hoping (and had sufficient cause to presume) that his character was in love with Robin, but whatever gay subtext I thought I saw forming earlier on was sadly dispensed with. Marion always had a faraway look on her face (but less in a dreaming-of-a-better-world way, and more like she was shrooming). Toby Stephens was an unexpected treat in the third season, and made me feel a little less guilty for putting up with it still.

I think this anonymous netflix review said it best: "I thought this show was great!..... Then my high wore off. It's campy, super cheesy, poorly cast, bad costumes and historically inaccurate but if you've got nothing else to watch it's not bad. The guy of Gibson is kind of hot, and you see him shirtless a few times."
The main characters who die during the course of the three seasons are Roy, Marian's father, Marian, Meg, Alan a Dale, Guy of Gisborne, Isabella, Vasey (the Sheriff) and Robin of Loxley (Robin Hood).
