I used to play this game when I was a kid. I remember almost every secret area, and know where almost all of the bad guys are. xD This game was and still is very fun. <3 If you like old school games, you will love this one.. Overall Rating: This game is a first person shooter. I'll admit it, I'm biased when it comes to these kinds of games. These are the games that got me into PC gaming when I was itty bitty. It's difficult to find a genuine old time first person shooter that I am not particularly fond of. Done by Apogee, which had a number of incredibly fun titles during it's time, this is essentially Wolfenstein 3D in space. The variation in weapons, enemies, and even mechanics makes this game a step forward in the FPS genre. Able to purchase items from vending machines with money that you pick up, instead of it only contributing to your score. It retains all the other fun secret passages, card keys, and everything else that made the FPS golden era what it was.. Pretty good, yes it's ugly and clunky but still playable and fun :) similar to Wallenstein 3d. This is a old school Wolfenstein clone. If that sounds good for you by all means have fun. This is the measure I judge MS-DOS games on, and my bar is always set exceptionally high on these. I've been playing these DOS games since I was 8 years old, sometimes right from a floppy! What made this game better than Wolfenstein 3D was the unique keycard and innocent informant variables that kept the game above a simple "kill everyone" logic, it forced you to keep certain criteria in mind in order to get perfect floor ratings.. An Excellect Apogee Software Title since my Childhood. Collect Weapons, Unlock Secert Areas and take down Dr. Goldfire's Henchmen but NOT any of the Friendly Bio-Techs who will help you out as you go through 6 Episodes, 9 Floors & 2 Secret Floors on each Episodes making the total of 66 Levels to play through. If you're a Deathmatch Champion on DOOM, Quake, UT or any other FPS Game, DO NOT play on the hardest Difficulty Setting otherwise you won't last a minute. As for the storyline, its pretty good. The Manual contains a comic that's contains a storyline that's drawn well & detailed. In the Distant Future, Human Colonies have expanded across the Solar System. However, on the S.T.A.R Institute Colony, it's fallen under a Major Lockdown as Dr. Goldfire has taken over the Human Colony & has begun conducting Human Genetic Mutation Experments to Unleash upon the Earth, all in Science's name. As British Intelligence's Agent Blake Stone, travel to the Human Colony, rescue his Mom & Sister, and Stop Goldfire's Plans from Dominating the Earth along with his Genetic Experments.. A fun game back in the day :) Not as good as Doom or as inventive as Wolfenstein 3D, but a pretty good game that is sadly often misrepresented because of it's close release to Doom. Basically, it's a more advanced space version of Wolfenstein 3D. It's very similar but has more weapon types, maps and a interactive system of questioning the scientist in the levels, quite advanced for its time. On the downside, compared to some of the best FPS games of the time, Blake Stone could run a bit stale at times, but far outshines the average Wolfenstein clone. This is properly not the best game for younger gamers to try, but for those who love Wolfenstein 3D or grew up with it, this is still a fun and pretty good game worth a try/retry. The Steam version works perfectly, haven't experienced any problems yet. Though, if you have another version already, there is properly no difference between running that through DOS Box and buying the Steam version.
