Following the death of a witness in a court case, Dr. Lee Rosen leads a team of "Alphas", (advanced human beings) who have have a number of special skills that makes them a formidable team. As Rosen mentors them and teaches the team to harness their considerable skills, they begin to realize that there are powerful forces behind the courthouse murder, including one of their own.
Alphas is a science fiction drama focusing on a team that investigates people with supernatural abilities.
This is going to be short because I've rated this a 10, with nothing but delight over how this show is progressing.

I just finished watching "Bill and Gary's Excellent Adventure". With Fringe off the air until the Fall, I really have to say that I have found a satisfying summer replacement.

The character's interactions are very creative and entertaining. Each character has flaws that make this so much more intriguing than a super-hero action team, perfect and powerful in their own right, whose main test is to overcome some all-powerful evil.

I hope this show gets renewed, The big shock is that the Sci-Fi Channel, (SyFY) is hosting this program. This is heads and tails above their other fare, but a welcome surprise.

I have to say that I think Gary is emerging as my favorite character in the series. It was no slam-dunk, especially in the wake of the failure of "Heroes" and last season's dud "No Ordinary Family." Created by Zak Penn ("X-Men: The Last Stand," "The Incredible Hulk") and Michael Karnow, it got bounced out of ABC during the writers strike while the script included a character whose superpower was the ability to shatter glass with a whisper.

It landed at Syfy, where it wisely lost the whisperer and gained a terrific cast, headed by Strathairn, who plays the deceptively paternal leader of a group of "alphas," whose abilities come with refreshingly believable downsides. The super-strength of former FBI agent Bill Harken (Malik Yoba) comes only in short bursts followed by exhaustion, Rachel Pirzad (Azita Ghanizada) can heighten her senses but only one at a time and at the expense of the other four, Gary Bell (Ryan Cartwright) can process digital information out of thin air but is autistic, and Nina Theroux (Laura Mennell) can bend people's will to her own but … well, it's not clear what the downside to that is but no doubt it has something to do with failed relationships.
Alphas are advanced human beings with enhanced abilities, effectively giving them super powers.
