69-year-old man dies from COVID-19 complications; 61 new locally transmitted cases in Singapore

SINGAPORE: A 69-year-old Singaporean man died from COVID-19 complications on Wednesday (Aug 11), becoming the sixth fatality from the disease in August.

The man, identified as Case 66910, was not vaccinated against COVID-19. He had a history of stroke, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

He developed symptoms on Jul 28. A day later, he was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he tested positive for COVID-19.

A total of 43 people in Singapore have died due to complications from COVID-19.

61 LOCALLY TRANSMITTED CASES
Singapore reported 61 new locally transmitted COVID-19 infections as of noon on Wednesday, including 17 with no links to previous cases.

Thirty-three infections were linked to previous cases and had been placed on quarantine. Another 11 linked infections were detected through surveillance testing, said MOH.

Among the new cases, three were people above the age of 70 who were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and at risk of serious illness, said MOH.
