About This Game

“Kiwami” means extreme.

1995, Kamurocho… Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima, takes the fall for the murder of a crime boss to protect his sworn brother, Akira Nishikiyama, and his childhood friend, Yumi.

2005… Akira Nishikiyama has become a changed man. Yumi is nowhere to be found. Ten billion yen has gone missing from the Tojo Clan's coffers, putting the organization on the brink of civil war. And Kazuma Kiryu is released from prison to a world he no longer recognizes.

With enhanced gameplay, an expanded cinematic story, the return of the battle styles from Yakuza 0, more nightlife spots, and re-recorded audio by the series cast, Yakuza Kiwami is the ultimate and most “extreme” version of the original vision of the series, now optimised for PC with 4K resolutions, uncapped framerates, customisable controls and ultra-widescreen support.

This game builds off of Yakuza 0, it runs on the same engine and uses the same core mechanics\/gameplay loop. You might even just call it Yakuza 0 but with a different story, which it kinda is.

The story is pretty engaging and it's got the Yakuza charm where it's just really campy and stupid but funny, but the gameplay falls apart here. The game is insanely repetitive and grindy; Yakuza 0 suffered from this too, but it managed to break up the tedium by switching you between Kiryu and Majima.

Not worth. Just as awesome as zero. there are a few growing pains in getting use to the changes between the two games, but after you get over that its great. Good guy sega is still killin it with these pc ports, and all i can say is keep the great games coming. you keep porting, ill keep buying sega and atlus games. yakuza has quickly become one of my favorite game franchises.

if you are considering buying but you arent sure, just do it. support ex-console exclusive games being ported to pc. also the price is a steal for a great game you can easily dump 40+ hours into.

i love u sega, keep it up.
oh, and any persona game next please. P4G specifically. lol. \u201cKiwami\u201d means extreme.. I'm going to call this game what it is, an asset flip. Literally every object, animation, or model you see is reused from previous Yakuza games, mainly 0. Kamurocho looks just like it does in every game of the series, Kiryu controls exactly like he did in 0, the cutscenes all use the camera angles and animations of the original Yakuza 1 and the soundtrack consists of mediocore remixes of the original PS2 game's tracks (they're still masterpieces compared to the abomination that is Kiwami 2's OST though). Thankfully there's a mod that restores the original OST.

Does that mean that the game is bad? No, definitely not, it is however worse than 0 in every regard. The combat is worse, the heat actions look worse, it has a lot less content, there's (obviously) no second protagonist and no second city, bossfights are horrible, the OST and PS2 OST are both worse than 0's, the story is unchanged from the original game so it's pretty weak, the characters are all shallow and flat except for Haruka, it's just a straight up downgrade. It also has all the problems Yakuza games pre-0 had: you have a million weapons to choose from but buying and repairing them costs an insane amount of money that you don't have, the heat system is dumb since the amount of heat you use up when doing a heat action is percentage based meaning that upgrading your heat doesn't really do anything, the translation isn't very good (it's basically the original English script of Yakuza 1) and XP becomes absolutely worthless once you've maxed out everything. To add to that, the two completely new things it adds, the KIWAMI mechanic and Majima Everywhere, are both terrible. Kiwami just makes the already bad enough bossfights drag out even longer and constantly fighting Memejima gets boring fast.

However, Kiwami also has (for the most part) all the good things previous Yakuza games had. Kamurocho is filled to the brim with stuff to do, there are 78 (77 without Amon) sub stories, a lot of mini games, over 100 weapons to collect, lots of unlockables, it came out before the Dragon Engine even existed so combat is actually fun, Tiger Drop hits like a road roller, and the performance is great. Also, Mesu King.

Overall, Yakuza Kiwami is an enjoyable spin-off and if you liked 0, you will like this one too.. I just finished the game and I was impressed... This is definitely one of the best story-based games I have ever played. The Story is literally the best story of a game I have played, the fighting is so much fun and the characters are so damn badass!

It's really worth it!. Great game!
Please port all the Yakuza games to Steam and I will keep buying them.
