On holidays in Hong Kong, Mrs Ma gives birth to identical twins. A criminal in the same hospital attempts to escape, taking one of the twins hostage. The child is lost during the confusion, and Mr and Mrs Ma return to New York with one child. Years later, John Ma is a famous conductor and pianist, unaware that his twin brother "Boomer" is a mechanic/race car driver/bodyguard in Hong Kong. When John travels to Hong Kong to give a concert, the twins get caught up in each other's business, about which they are anything but experts.
Two twins are separated at birth, one becoming a streetwise mechanic and the other an acclaimed classical concert conductor. Finally meeting in adulthood they each become mistaken for the other and entangled in each other's world.
This is not a review, really, it's just to point out that all but one or two of the reviewers of Twin Dragons probably saw the butchered American version of this funny, clever, exciting movie and not the full- length, sub-titled Hong Kong original.

I vividly recall taking a friend to see this when it opened (American Version) and watching for scene after favorite scene (remembered from a viewing in NY's Sun Sing Theatre in Chinatown) which never appeared! Afterwards, I stuttered through an explanation of why it was really a funny, exciting film only to be met by blank stares.

I'll give only one example: The scene in the mall. (semi-spoiler) Originally, it was an exciting, but funny scene that ends with the thug Jackie beats up wanting to be his student! Not only is all of the character development in the scene cut out, but the music is completely altered to try to make a comic scene seem like a deadly serious fight!

Clearly, someone at the distribution company decided that American audiences were so tone-deaf that they simply couldn't appreciate wit and cleverness, only rock-em, sock-em brain-dead action, so they performed a lobotomy on this swell little gem.

They should change their names to "Silk Purse Into Sow's Ear Production Company."

Perhaps future reviewers will bother to note whether they saw the full 100 minute Hong Kong version or the embarrassing (let's all cover our eyes quickly) 89 minute American mess. This isn't one of Jackie Chan's better films. Two babies are separated at birth; one becomes a maestro and another becomes a mechanic. For some reason when one brother is doing the other one start doing the same thing. The two meet in a washroom partly thanks to their girlfriends. Two Jackie Chans produce less action then one Jackie Chan not much happens during the movie. The movie has some good moments of humor, but there are no good action scenes until the end of the movie. The black and white beginning is a true testament to bad acting. This idea of identical twins being separated at birth is not an original idea. Jean-Claude Van Damme did a movie just like this but a lot worse. Watch "Who am I" instead of this one.
Chan hams it up throughout -- to little avail -- but the final brawl should please fans of his balletic action sequences, that is, if they can endure the full hour of silliness before it.
Next to some rather irrelevant filler material and rather weird HK humor, some important scenes for the character development were removed. Especially Maggie Cheung's character had to suffer: Her first musical performance, the dreams sequence at Jackie's piano and several dialog pieces are missing here and there. The gues appearance by Wong Jing as a healer was cut out completely as well as a mistaken identity scene with Rocky.
