Entrusted with the task of spotting any potential terrorists and chemical specialists who try to get a visa, Kate Abbott, the genius newly-recruited security officer at the U.S. Embassy in London, senses there's something off with the Romanian doctor, Emil Balan; however, her concerns are dismissed by her boss. But, then, after a devastating bombing attack in the heart of the city, Kate will surprisingly find herself in the spotlight and on the wrong side of the law, while at the same time, targeted by the international assassin known only as the Watchmaker. Can Kate unearth the conspiracy and make it in one piece before a new act of terrorism strikes the metropolis?

When you've played a role as seminal as James Bond, which Pierce Brosnan did in four films over eight years from 1997 to 2005, it can't be easy to shake off the shackles of what is your career- defining role. Brosnan has made a remarkably good job of it, though, appearing in various films from the daft-as-it gets albeit thoroughly enjoyable Abba musical "Mamma Mia!" to the Roman Polanski Silver Bear-winning "The Ghost Writer".

More recently, Brosnan has taken something of a return to his roots. Last year's "The November Man" was an enjoyable if unspectacular romp that saw Brosnan's retired spy team up with former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko to foil a worldwide terrorist plot. Now, "Survivor" sees him back in the spy-terrorist-evil plot fold in the character of a notorious assassin known as The Watchmaker.

In a break from tradition, Brosnan is the baddie this time, and he's even developed a nervous twitch at the corner of his mouth, surely the method actor's way of saying: "I am slightly unstable and definitely not James Bond or Remington Steele."

The film fits into the same enjoyable, if unspectacular slot as "The November Man". Milla Jovovich is the usual rogue security operative, framed for a crime she didn't commit and forced to go on the run from her own employers, in this instance to foil a faintly ludicrous plot to fill the NYE Ball in Times Square (New York, not Dubai) with explosive gas and wipe out the millions below. Dylan McDermott portrays the loyal boss who knows she is innocent even though all around him have passed their judgment. And Brosnan is the international hit-man hired to take her out before she can stop the evildoers in their tracks.

It's a well-worn formula, and in fairness it's been done better plenty of times. The holes in the plot are many – who actually are the baddies? Why, when London is the most CCTV-covered city in the world, do Jovovich's bosses not notice that Brosnan has tried to shoot her in the street on numerous occasions, and give her just a tiny bit of benefit of the doubt? How does the most-wanted woman in the world wander through both London and New York customs with serious facial injuries, and no one bats an eyelid? How does the world's most- feared assassin manage to effortlessly eliminate everyone put before him, except for Jovovich's glorified data-entry clerk from the embassy of the United States?

The list goes on, but it doesn't really matter, because "Survivor" is 96 minutes of rip-roaring action, with heavyweight actors managing to paper over some of the glaring plot holes with their performances. Watch without prejudice, and you'll enjoy it. what a horrible, unrealistic movie...

So Pierce is supposed to be The Watchmaker, one of the top assassins in the world, BUT it's just toooooo hard to catch Milla, a worker in the embassy issuing visas lmao...

of course all the British cops, NYPD, and the US Marines are retarded and can't catch her either...but then again cops all over the world are portrayed in every movie as idiots and can never catch anyone...

Personally I didn't know that Pierce was playing a bad guy in this movie otherwise I might not have watched it... I prefer him playing the hero since I think he is much more suited in that role than as the antagonist... still that wasn't the reason why I rooted for Pierce to kill Milla throughout the movie. It's that Pierce Brosnan and Dylan Mcdermott were the only 2 believable, or even likable, characters in this movie...

I only felt bad for her coworkers who were killed in the beginning of the movie in the restaurant, but, never once, did I feel bad for Milla's character.. She was practically Jason Bourne in this movie anyways... Never mind that she doesn't have any sort of training or background in this movie to make that even remotely believable in the storyline...

The fight near the end of the movie is, of course, once again, ridiculous... Pierce Brosnan, as the Watchmaker, one of the most wanted assassins in the world, couldn't beat Milla in a 1 on 1 physical combat... I mean why should he win? He's only the top assassin while she is a super embassy worker....

so yeah the movie can be described in pretty much one word...

"WHATEVER" The movie makes halfhearted efforts to give Kate and others back stories, but mostly it’s content to follow her as she runs around in subway tunnels, down a staircase and through city streets.
