La Tramontane - Ferienhaus direkt am Meer

During the early 20th century, the Belgian railway network was increasingly under state control. The nationalised railways retained a monopoly until liberalisation in the 2000s. Since then, the Belgian government has resumed train services.

Several train routes connect Belgium with the rest of Europe. The TGV Bruxelles/France runs between Brussels and various cities in France, while the Thalys trains operate from Brussels to Paris and other major cities in France. The national rail operator, SNCB, operates virtually all train services in Belgium. Tickets are available online and from stations. However, some high speed trains require reservations.

The SNCB's international booking centre is located just next to the Eurostar terminal, in the main concourse under the tracks. Tickets are available in English and are sold in limited numbers. Reservations can also be made by phone.

Train Travel on the Rise with Improved Technology & Experiences

The Belgian railway system was developed quickly as the country became industrialized. The first line was built between Mechelen and Brussels in 1835. It was the first steam passenger railway in continental Europe.

The Semmering Pass railway is 41 km long and winds through cliffs and forests. It consists of 14 tunnels. The line passes over 100 curved stone bridges. It was built in the 1840s and 1850s.

The Belgian tram system is one of the largest in the world. Its total length is more than the length of the mainline railway network. Seven tram systems operate in Belgium. The Vicinal tramway system, which was introduced in 1869, served the whole country. The trams were a source of controversy in the early 20th century. However, after the arrival of the automobile, the trams were replaced by buses.

There are five major train routes from Belgium to France. Those routes include: Bruges - Brussels, Brussels - Aulnoye, Liege - Brussels, Mons - Aulnoye, and Namur - Brussels. Most of these routes operate at least hourly. On the weekend, trains operate to a different timetable.

The Belgian railway system is operated by the Belgian National Railway Company (SNCB). Trains from Belgium to France primarily use five routes. During the early 20th century, the country was heavily involved in the development of railway transport. However, the country has a poor record of on-time trains.

Changing trains is easy. Just use the connections escalator located half way along the train platforms. A Railteam stamp gives priority to passengers who hop on the next train. It is also easy to book a ticket online. However, you will need to make a reservation as soon as possible.

Belgium has a number of must-see cities and towns. Highlights include the Grand Place and the Royal Palace in Brussels, and the Atomium in Ghent. The country is also home to thousands of restaurants and has a reputation for chocolate and chocolate-making. If you plan a trip to Belgium, you will need to plan your journey carefully.

The Belgian rail network has many stations. The main hub station is Brussels Midi, and it also has a Eurostar terminal. Each provincial capital has a railway station.
