Barney augments his team with new blood for a personal battle: to take down Conrad Stonebanks, the Expendables co-founder and notorious arms trader who is hell bent on wiping out Barney and every single one of his associates.
Barney Ross and The Expendables rescue Doc, who has been imprisoned for eight years, from a train that is transporting him to a maximum security prison. Doc teams-up with Barney, Lee Christmas, Gunner, Toll Road and Hale Caesar in the assignment of stopping the dealer Victor Mins during a transaction of bombs. However they discover that the dealer is actually the former Expendable Conrad Stonebanks, who shoots Hale Caesar badly. The Expendables take their friend to the hospital and Barney meets Trench in the waiting room who tells that they are old. Then he has a meeting with the operating officer Max Drummer who had hired The Expendable to kill Victor and he gives one last chance to Barney to fix the problem. Barney concludes that his crew is old and decides to recruit a new and faster team with the support of his friend Bonaparte. Barney hires Thorn, Luna, Mars and the rebel John Smilee and refuses the co-operation of his old team. They head to Bucharest but their mission fails and only Barney escapes from Stonebanks. Now Barney intends to return to rescue his team with the outcast Galgo. However his old team is like a family and they will never leave Barney fighting alone because family fights together to protect a member.
'The Expendables 3' is an entertaining 3rd part in the series, which had an amazingly impressive sequel. This action extravaganza which completes the trilogy, is indeed Good Fun! And its such a pleasure to watch Hollywood Legend Mel Gibson stealing the show, by enacting the baddie to perfection!

'The Expendables 3' serves its propose, which is, to Entertain the audience. And it does that well. Sylvester Stallone's Story & Screenplay is meant for the masses, as it delivers enough scope of human tension & explosive action. Although I'd like to point out, that, the first-hour of the film, is slightly slow-paced & dull. Its the second-hour which is arresting & the climax is simply brilliant.

Patrick Hughes's Direction is satisfactory. Cinematography is dusky. Editing could've been more sharper. Costume Design is perfect. Action-Sequences are the mainstay of the film.

Performance-Wise: After Mel Gibson, its Stallone who delivers a performance of substance. He leads the pack with toughness. Its also nice to see Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes & Antonio Banderas joining in. They all play to the gallery well, as do the rest.

On the whole, 'The Expendables 3' is a winner! The only 10 this movie gets is the 10 minutes it took me to realize this is yet another masturbatory fantasy for a bunch of actors pretending to do warfare. It is an ego stroking homage to the short men ( Stallone) the washed up (most of the others) men of Hollywood that should retire and spare us the indignity of freaking Botox and plastic surgery.

I knew that I shouldn't have rented it but I did and sure enough it's just a bunch of guys playing soldier or bad guys and good guys. Except to my knowledge none of them have ever been shot at have never suffered have never sacrificed or lost friends.

Maybe I am just in a bad mood but seeing a bunch of guys fresh out of hair and makeup pretending to be gunfighters just bugs me to no extent. And spare me they do their own stunts garbage.

Impossible action sequences, unrealistic tactics and use of force. Stop the steroids and Botox gents you look ridiculous. I used to like Jason S but the beret is goofy. The Expendables 3 is silly and overblown, yes, and it could definitely do without Antonio Banderas‘ motor-mouth routine (not to mention an out-of-nowhere reference to Benghazi), but it's less silly and overblown than “The Expendables 2,” for whatever that's worth.
With the Expedables team dwindled down to a mere five old members—Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Gunner Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Toll Road (Randy Couture), and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), who is currently tied up in the hospital after being shot down during their last mission—team leader Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) puts together a new, younger team, consisting of computer hacker Thorn (Glen Powell), nightclub bouncer and close combat expert Luna (Ronda Rousey), weapons expert Marlito "Mars" (Victor Ortiz), and John Smilee (Kellan Lutz). Barney's new team is charged by Operations Officer Drummer (Mel Gibson) to capture alive former Expendable Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson) to stand trial at The Hague for war crimes. However, when the new team becomes compromised, the old team plus new team member Felipe "Galgo" Silva (Antonio Banderas) band together to rescue them. The Expendables 3 is the third movie in The Expendables franchise, preceded by The Expendables (2010) (2010) and The Expendables 2 (2012) (2012). The series is a tribute to action films and actors from the 1980s and 90s. The screenplay was written by Sylvester Stallone, Cerighton Rothenberger, and Katrin Benedikt. The Expendables 4 is in the works, with a release date set for 2018. Barney left his old crew once he realized that Stonebanks was still alive. The reason is that Stonebanks nearly killed Caesar and that brought back memories of what happened when he first tried to kill Stonebanks and lost three of his original crew. Barney was compelled to find and kill Stonebanks, but he didn't want to risk the lives of his current crew because they were his family. So Barney contacted Bonaparte (Kelsey Grammer) to help him round up some "young guns" who weren't afraid to die because this crew would have no attachment to Barney, nor would he have any attachment to them. So if any of them died, it would be easier to take. However, once Barney's new team is captured by Stonebanks, Barney couldn't let them die at his hands. First off, this would mean Stonebanks wins, which Barney couldn't allow, and two because Barney actually does care and just because he was willing to risk his life and theirs, doesn't mean he's willing to allow them to be slaughtered. When another wave of Stonebanks' reinforcements arrive, Barney orders the team to head for the roof where Drummer is waiting in the helicopter. Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Yin Yang (Jet Li) clear the roof, and the entire team hops on the copter, leaving Barney to go hand-to-hand with Stonebanks until he finally gets the upper hand and shoots Stonebanks dead. Meanwhile, the battery has dropped to 0%, and the explosives start going off. With the building collapsing under him, Barney races to the roof and just manages to catch onto the helicopter as it takes off. With Barney still hanging there, the copter flies away. Later, the team is partying in a bar. They toast Caesar, who has made a full recovery. Caesar gives back Barney's good luck ring, Drummer admits that he hasn't had so much fun in years, and Galgo goes ecstatic when Barney finally welcomes him as one of the team. Christmas and Doc (Wesley Snipes) throw knives at the dartboard, both hitting the bull's eye, but Doc's knife falls off. The new recruits then go onstage and sing karaoke to Neil Young's "Old Man". In the final scene, Christmas tells Barney that he looks like a "proud, demented father." Barney replies, "You could have skipped the demented part," as he watches on with obvious pride. The film does not explicitly say what happened to CIA agent Church (Bruce Willis). Barney mentions that Church gave him information on where to find Doc. Drummer merely states that "he is out of the picture," though the way he says it implies Church may have died/been killed. In reality, actor Bruce Willis was offered three million dollars for four days of work and he turned it down, stating he wanted four million dollars, so he was replaced by Harrison Ford.
