When news magnate James Reid dies, his son Britt and chauffeur Kato, resentful of Reid's slights, vandalize a graveyard statue. Britt, thinking he's a genius while relying on Kato's mechanical and kung-fu skills, decides to be a superhero, the Green Hornet, and use his father's paper to play up the bad-guy elements. The reporting on the Hornet upsets LA's DA, who's up for reelection, and the city's real crime boss, Chudnofsky. Plus, how long will Kato suffer in silence, when he has all the skill? Competition for the affection of Britt's assistant, Lenore, brings things to a head.
Playboy Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) becomes the new publisher of Los Angeles' "The Daily Sentinel" after the sudden death of his father. Britt's party life is about to change when he and his driver and kung fu expert, Kato (Jay Chou), stop a robbery. With the help of Kato, Britt starts a new career of fighting crime as the masked superhero "The Green Hornet".
The first thing that I knew about this film is that it is directed by Michel Gondry and I really enjoyed all of his previous work, even when this is a movie made and produced for the box office you can see the visual style of Gondry. Now,if this critic was based on the quality of the script, believable plot and likable characters probably I would give this a 4 ( there was a lot of times that all I could think was WTF? But frankly most of the recent comedies just make me smile but with this one I laughed until I felt a pain in the stomach at least five times. Im still laughing at the Pop-eye joke and the best of the best: ( You get the L I get the A that was just hilarious. The only problem with this film is that there is a lot of Seth Rogen humor so if you go to see this be prepared for a huge parade of stupidity. You will enjoy it.
My favorite actor was in this movie. Christoph Waltz, one of the most celebrated newcomer in the Hollywood scene for his terrific performance in Inglorious Basterds and Water for Elephants was in Green Hornet.

I bought the BluRay set to see if it's suitable for my grandson and was stunned to see such poorly written script and appalling acting by actors most people expect more from.

Christoph Waltz probably regretted accepting the role. As I understand, he's very clever, witty, his interviews are laced with subtle intelligent humor.

I will never with with my grandson, or anyone, for that matter, to watch this movie again, as the most ludicrous and unacceptably rude behavior was so blatantly flaunted by the Green Hornet, the supposed to be hero.

I will not endeavor to write a technical or professional evaluation, nor will I discuss production values and other aspect. It's pointless, and so very sad.

But for those who enjoy this kind of movie, go ahead. You might just like it. And good luck. A big, boisterous action-comedy - a funny, exciting and intentionally goofy summer movie that just happens to arrive in the middle of January.

From WorstPreviews.com: Seth Rogen, writer and co-star of the upcoming The Green Hornet, told Sci Fi Wire that the film will possess elements of both comedy and action. "To me, the two aren't mutually exclusive," said Rogen. "You can have a big action epic with a lot of funny parts." Green Hornet is a big-screen adaptation of the superhero franchise, which was adapted as a popular 1960s television series and was inspired by the original radio program created in the 1930s. Hornet follows the adventures of Britt Reid, a bored playboy who inherits his father's crusading newspaper, the Daily Sentinel. By night he is a masked hero, fighting crime with his sidekick, Kato, who has incredible martial-arts skills. Rogen, whose film projects to date have been primarily comedic in nature, said that the forthcoming update will evoke other action films that feature an undercurrent of humor. "I've seen the early 'Indiana Jones' movies in theaters, and they kill," Rogen said. "There's laughs throughout the whole thing, and it doesn't feel like a comedy per se. It just feels like something that's trying to solicit reactions from the audience, and we think of movies like 'True Lies' and stuff like that. That's more kind of what we're going for with this." Director Michel Gondry also has said this about the film's tone: "It's an action movie with some comedy in it. The action will be fast and furious and the comedy will come from the dynamic between Kato and Britt Reid." Reportedly, he stepped down to work on a superhero spoof comedy starring Jack Black. It's called "Live With Me" by the Rolling Stones.
