At first glance, Subsideria looks just like any other space shooter. The thing is, it's not. I am personally not a fan of space shooters, but this game managed to conquer a place in my heart. Subsideria rekindles the flame of it's own genre, adding tons of new features to it's gameplay and managing to make so much with so little. If this game wasn't already amazing, it's even more appealing by the fact that it's super cheap! In this review i will sum up all my experience with the game, in the hope to offer a nice perspective of what it actually is. Starting with:

Graphics: 10\/10
The graphics in this game are absolutely amazing. At first i thought the graphics would be... meh. But oh if i was wrong! The models themselves have very good looking textures and seem to be high poly models. But that's not the best part at all, the special effects are incredible! From asteroids exploding to bosses being defeated, everything looks buttery smooth and incredible.

Design\/Environment: 8\/10
As expected, in terms of environment the game doesn't offer much. I have to be honest about this, even though it's well.... space, i was expecting something more. But it's nothing bad, and actually the background is even animated. But what save the whole thing here are the BOSSES! Yes, there are bosses, and yes, each one is unique in every single way. From their appearance, to the music, to the way they even move, every boss has a special feeling to it. I personally loved "Serpens Stellaris" because of the way it moves and the music itself. Kinda makes me remember of the good ole days playing Shadow of The Colossus.

Audio: 8\/10
The music in this game is it's strongest point in my opinion. Many people will disagree of course, but in my opinion, it's a solid part of the game. I can't even begin to imagine Subsideria with a different soundtrack. Each song is extremely different from each other and the bosses' themes give you the creeps, in the good way! The first boss' theme song by itself is already an incredible introduction that basically says "You are gonna have a bad time!". Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the sound effects, as they are just decent, without anything special to it.

Gameplay: 7\/10
So this is where i get split. The gameplay is great, it's just that... it ain't for me. I hate how the precision is a complete pain when you are trying to hit that single asteroid that survived, and "precision aiming" doesn't help either. To make matters worse, the screen wrapping move is confusing and will make you die rather than save you most of the time. It's a shame for such a great game, that the gameplay is average at max.

Everything considered, i'd give this game a solid 8 and maybe something near 9. This game definately won't change the way the industry makes games, but it is a nice, refreshing breathe to the good ole space shooter genre. As i said in the very beginning of this review, Subsideria manages to do so much with so little, making it an absolutely amazing game. It has it's flaws, but overall, it's definately worth your time, and definately worth the super cheap price you will be paying for it.. Interesting game mechanics.

Wished it would allow you to fly with the mouse tho.

Also, really, and this is the odd part, but the background music ... I makes me think that Keyboard Cat is the musician for this game. The music is horrible!

But I still recommend it!. I'm a fan of the classic asteroid esque style of game and subsideria takes the original concept and modernises the approach by adding a variety of content, powerups, unlockables, trackable leaderboards and statistics for a much more update to date representation of an arcade classic.

The inclusion of bosses is a nice diversion from the regular gameplay, even if broken up with various other things you must avoid. The thing that strikes me about the game is the overall visuals have a consistant feeling and keep it fresh by the use of interesting particles, colours and effects.

I do like the sound-track, it feels very reminisent of other arcade classics and suits the overall feel. If you're looking for a game which has that same nostalgic feel of the classic with some new interesting additions then this might just be something for you. Lots of replayablilty and variety in the levels.

Best of luck!. Interesting game mechanics.

But I still recommend it!. This is such a well made game. It has elements from classic games but also has so much unique content. Developing your skills, levelling up, getting upgrades, overcoming challenges and listening to the awesome soundtrack in this game will keep you entertained for many hours..
