The film opens with a daring escape of a convict imprisoned for killing an FBI agent, then moves on to two Seattle detectives chasing a suspect who gets away, destroying a forklift in the process, these two detectives are reassigned to a stakeout, watching the girlfriend of the escaped federal prisoner. One falls in love with her, the escaped convict eventually catches up to her, with them actually, and in the midst of their getaway, the escaped convict learns that his woman's man is a cop, but the two detectives kill him, saving the day.
Two cops are given the 'dirty' job of staking out the home of an escaped convict's ex-girlfriend. Chris and the beautiful girlfriend accidentally meet and fall in love. Just as Chris' confesses, the convict appears, but will she betray him?
The "Stakeout" together with its sequel "Lookout" is probably one of the best mixes of police thriller/comedy I have seen. The Dreyfuss - Estevez dialogues are funny, the pranks between the two couples of detectives, are hilarious and Mrs. Stowe is absolutely beautiful. The plot is not much (it doesn't have to be) and the only out of balance element is the violence in the last 15 minutes. Other than that, the film is a wonderful way to spend an evening. Better than the "Lethal Weapon" series (in the humor department), -the Gibson/Glover duo is hard to beat in the action scenes.
Dreyfuss and Estevez play a pair of detectives who stake out Madelaine Stowe's apartment looking for her psycho boyfriend..of course Dreyfuss falls for her and the fun begins...not a bad film ...has its moments..and the cast does well together..on a scale of one to ten..7
Between Lecce's illicit courtship and Reimers' consternation, there are some hearty laughs of a juvenile nature.
