About This Game

Shadows Peak is an atmospheric, open-world horror game focused on exploration that doesn't hold your hand.

The main focus of the game is on the atmosphere, story, and exploration. Unlike most horror games, Shadows Peak allows you to explore large environments and progress through the game in a non-linear way.

You play as the writer Tom Blair who has decided to visit a mysterious place called Shadows Peak to gather materials for a new book about legends. A number of people have gone missing in Shadows Peak. Some people claim that they saw something that they shouldn’t have been able to see there and, of course, there are some dark legends surrounding this place.

Very, very, very atmospheric game. First time i've launched in May 2016, today i decided to play in again, because a lot of updates came out in past 9 months . And there is a lot of improvements in this game! A tons of new tiny (but very interesing) details added, making atmospheric game more atmospheric! I suggest this game for all horror lovers :). Decided to play this after beating Witch Hunt. Would not rate this one as highly as I beat it in under three hours total. Has a very nice survival horror feel to it and a twist in the plot that you'll either love or hate. I notice this game dev reuses a lot of assets between his games but not in a horrible way.

The times I died were more motivating than frustrating and it rarely took me more than twice to make it through an area. Similarly to Witch Hunt, I found myself wanting to explore the maps I was given and I found exploration worthwhile. As with Witch Hunt the enemies get more numerous and health/ammo become more scarce late in the game.

Overall I'd say I got my money's worth, especially considering I got this game super cheap as part of a holiday bundle. For what it is, I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5. It lost a bit because it ended just when all the elements of the game were coming together, unlike Witch Hunt which peaked in around chapter 4. This one's got three chapters and I wanted another. It is for this reason that I score it lower.. No Spoiler Review + Let's Playability Rating:

Recommended? Yes. This game is already robust for an indie early access, it plays well, the surroundings feel good, there's a lot to explore already.

Graphics & Ambience: The graphics are definitely up to par. I like the way that everything that's already there has details.

Gameplay: There's still some work to be done on this aspect. I thought the F key wasn't a logical key to put a "grab" mechanic on and it confused me a couple of times. The 1-4 keys or mouse to scroll through them also didn't feel quite right because there was no feedback; there was either a tool or no tool and nothing else to tell you what you had in your inventory (not that I could find). I would love if there was a tiny blinking thing for it or a small HUD part.

Spoopfactor: This game might not scare the horror/thriller pros, but beware those extremely faint of heart.

Let's Playability: ★★★★☆ Medium to low difficulty. This game has its own voice acting, which is nice. It'll be very funny for your viewers if you are actually scared like I was. I don't take suspense too well, haha. People love watching other people play scary games so they don't have to, you just have to know what to say since it can take a while before anything happens and this game does do horror clichés. If you play indie horror a lot or you're looking into getting one of those games, this might be something for you.

Cons: The health mechanic is a little out of wack maybe, you get hurt too quickly and too much. The jumpscares are simple frames, I feel that this can be much better.

As a child of late 80s I feel like this has a theme that hasnt been explored enough videogame-wise. Nice music and sound, i like the surrondings as well. But gameplay and story.. Nope.

To expensive as well, i manged to pick it up during a sale but i wouldnt recommend it for less then 80% off. you can get so many good games for the same amount of money. If it would have been cheaper maybe i could have recommend it.. Loved it :)
good cheap horror game.. I must give a negative feedback because I couldn't keep playing the game after 2,6 hours..
I was excited for this game, it started so interestingly... And it looked so intriguing. Damn.
And I love love horror games, horror games with a good story and deep atmosphere.
Shadows Peak could have had those from the very beginning.

Here's some things...

- Fighting is so annoying and so difficult! The guy with the shovel. Mmmrrraarggh!! xO
- The spooky atmosphere was gone after the first jumpscare. After that, the ghosts became more like annoying.
- Why not invest in a good and deep horror story, rather than this cheap looking run or fight or you die story... ?
