grab it on sale, the game can be a lot of fun although it has some issues and I can't really fully recommend it at full price.

The environments are mostly very beautiful but the optimization for this game is not great (running it on a asus RoG with windows 10, nvidia GEFORCEGTX 960M, 16gb ram and intel i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz processor), for it to run well without slowing down or stuttering I have play with all the graphics in the lowest setting and it will still heat up my pc a lot more than any other game I own. (it is very pretty looking, though, despite the lowest graphics settings)

playing this game is a lot of fun and it's very challenging, you have to be very wary of your surroundings and get used to managing your mana which regenerates quickly but is used for attacking, jumping and hovering. you also have to take into account the day cycle and your hunger, as well as use different types of food for different effects.

My biggest issue with the game, aside from optimization, is that completing and island will normally take you a while, at least 15 minutes and at most an hour, I'd say, and you can only save after completing an island. The game is a roguelike but also plays a lot like a sandbox game where you want to explore and extract resources as much as possible to upgrade your spells and max mana, but doing so will take a long time and if you ever need to exit the game you will lose your progress unless you complete whatever quests you have left on an island.

recommendations for dev:
-add a saving feature accessible within the ship so one can save (maybe when sleeping) without having to finish the island.
-maybe add a lower graphics setting to make the game more accessible, using the lowest settings still looked pretty good and heated up my laptop quite a bit.
-add more varieties of monsters, being almost 4 hours into the game in the same run, and having beaten the first 6 or so islands, I have seen very few enemies. Even if they don't act too different you could try spicing things up with alternate sprites for the basic skeleton mobs or other enemies.
- maaaybe make it so that during a same run you can't get two of the same charms since you can't use a second one anyways..... This game is just beautiful, i have played for a little bit, and i'm already intrigue about finding out more. The colors, the textures, the character interaction, the animation effects, sound effects, i just love it! I can't wait to see more and more about the game.
Regards, Alberto.. Having a lot of fun with this one, and want to post right off the bat that I am running a Windows 7 64 bit machine with an i7 3.2 Gig processor and a Geforce 960M (driver version 388.71 or in Device Mngr., 23.21.13.8871) with no stuttering or graphics issues of any kind. Overall, I really like the graphics in this game, and the screens don't do it justice. I am getting a solid 60-70+ FPS without the reflections enabled and 40-45 with them on (and everything else maxed/enabled) at 1080p. Note that there is 20-25 FPS slowdown when you get off the boat at the start of the level, but this goes away after you get onto the island and I have not seen any other dips while playing.

The gameplay is really enjoyable and challenging enough to keep me interested. I've actually only spent about an hour and a half in game, and am just about finished with the first island. There looks to be quite a bit of content ahead but hard to say how long the game actually is at this point.

The only bug I have run into is that you cannot rebind the keys despite the game having the option to do so. Several players have informed the devs and I'm sure it will be fixed in the next patch, so no worries there. The only odd controller binding (I'm using a PS4 controller with DS4 Windows), is the L1 key which is bound to jump. It's actually not so bad as an option, but I am so used to using X for jump that I've died several times by smashing the X button and trying to get out of the way. I'm starting to get used to it, however.

Lastly, and I mentioned this to the devs as well, the game does not pause while you are in the inventory. This wouldn't be a big deal if you were just switching gear, but there is a fair bit of crafting in this game which is done in the inventory section. While learning the various crafting recipes, you have to keep the inventory open while moving from item to item, and I've died several times while trying my best to hurry through an explanation of what I need to craft to get a new spell, make a new item, etc. Hopefully this will be changed, but if not, it's more of an annoyance than a gamebreaker as eventually I will learn all of the recipes and it won't be as much of an issue.

Hope you enjoy the game, I'm definitely having fun so far.

PS, Death to the thorny poison grass!!!

PSS, Very light spoiler: I just figured out that you can use certain items in caves to perform environmental kills on your enemies!! Awesome!!!. Made a player made trailer of this game solely using the first explorable island..First time I've ever done this. Great game so far. Have only played it in Permadeath mode so far.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bVTmqnKaoU. Don't be fooled by my 1.1 hour play time. I've played way more of this game on another Steam account and it's legitimately epic. Survival, minecrafty-ness and Dark Souls level punishment... Rogue Islands is a great game but not for those that get frustrated easily (The game gets better the more you play it).

It's an action adventure game with crafting and survival and while the first time you play you will probably die and get super angry, ignore that and go back in and try again.. Played this for the first time tonight. Spent about 2 hrs on my stream on twitch playing this and talking to one of the devs in my chat.

Currently the learning curve is a bit hard (expect to die a few times as you figure the game out).

While it does seem like a minecraft clone at face value, you quickly learn that its everything but that. I had a lot of fun playing this game and will be playing more in the future after it realeases tomorrow from early access.

It still has a ways to go for some quality of life updates, but for what the studio did, in the time asked of them and the fact the proceeds of this game go to benefit life limited and disabled children makes it a worth while investment.. The Voxel Style of artwork Fits very well into the purpose of the game, The whole game has Rogue like feel . It is a fast pace game with limited lives (If any on the harder levels) . The levels and AI go through changes and it's never the same map twice. The Sound track fit the game rather well and wasn't something I wanted to turn off after a few moments of listening. My honest opinion this that this is something I will keep coming back to and playing.

The Voxel graphics doesn't mean it's a minecraft clone , The point is to keep moving and keep moving your on a mission to safe your world and your people. This game makes good use of the adaptive nature of the AI and Terrain to make you feel that way. It's finding your line "your way through" that will keep you alive.

The game seemed seemless once you were on the island despite how many glowing balls were flying at me.

I look forward to keep replaying this an watching to see where the title goes.

. Well, at first look, this looked like nothing special. After playing Early Access on my friend's computer, though, it ended up having a lot more depth than I expected.

The difficulty was horrible at the start, but they've been balancing it easier recently and now it's feeling pretty good. If they keep improving the game and balancing, this will be one of the most fun action crafters I've played this year.

. Rogue Islands Roadmap:
Guys,

As promised I want to discuss something of the future of Rogue Islands. We are absolutely committed to creating an on-going gaming experience with Rogue Islands.

When you buy the game you are buying the base pack. Although a great game in itself, the base pack will be used as a springboard for launching fresh content on a long term ongoing basis.

So what do we have in mind:-

We will be releasing regular DLC (downloadable content) for the game, including special themed islands, new monsters and new encounters. There will be a constant stream of new content from a dedicated team of developers, working full time on Rogue Islands. (look out for some special seasonal islands too over holiday times!)

Work is already in progress on a special multiplayer pack where you can play against your friends with a whole host of gameplay modes, including custom skins for your character! This includes multi player rankings and achievements.

We are also working hard on the sandbox creators pack, allowing you to create your own islands, monsters and encounters that can be saved to play with either solo or with your friends.

We are implementing Steam workshop integration very soon after full release of the creation tools, so you can share your masterpieces with the whole community.

This just scratches the surface of our future plans for Rogue Islands. We are as invested in this game as you are! Quite simply we love the game!

We are fully committed to continued growth of the Rogue Islands franchise bringing you guys compelling content from our dedicated AAA team, now working full time to deliver updates, new content and most importantly to deliver bucket loads of fun!

. Rogue Islands Music Sample:
As we work towards our Steam Early Access release, we’ve been adding music to help set the mood for the various environments in Rogue Islands.

For the title screen, we wanted to invoke a sense of somber contemplation, with ominous overtones.

Our hero, Motwort, is seated in his ship, studying his maps and deciding what islands to sail to next.

These are life and death decisions that carry a lot of weight. For the player, deciding which islands to avoid, and which to plunder, determine your chances of making it across the ocean world of Vitalor.

Damon Connolly assembled a beautiful ambient track that really sets the mood for the game. It’s titled, “An Impossible Task”. Give it a listen and let us know what you think: http://rogueislands.com/?p=1543. Demon Portal's Broken & Fixed:
The demon portals were broken in the last build. They did not configure themselves correctly and thus you could not trigger the "Close Demon Portal" quest.

We uploaded a fix which solved the problem for us. But please inform us if you encounter anymore bugs similar to this. It's a very odd problem since it doesn't always show up in the release build, and never in our debug build.

Thanks!
. Directors Cut:
Hello all,

Big Fat Alien has recently taken back control of Rogue Islands. Our partnership with Keystone was not a successful one. We made the decision to revert the game back to as it was before they took control. We are sorry for the misleading information and false promises made over the past year and a half. Truly very sorry.

Starting today a 75% off sale will run for two weeks, along with the new permanent discounted price. I know this does not make up for the shady behavior but I hope it helps. I will be here to answer any questions you may have.
