Amazing DLC. Zero-gravity zones are really good and give nice addition to gameplay.. The tracks in The Neptune Pack have a lot of, off track, zero gravity moments. The tracks are inside an asteroid field. The aesthetic and the soundtrack provide an atmosphere of racing is space. Because of the zero gravity track design elements and the new visual aesthetic the price seems fair.

I recommend this DLC for people who want to play Redout in space. I also recommend watching a video, of a boss mode race trough this location, for deciding if you want to buy this DLC. I don't recommend this DLC for people who dislike off track moments in Redout.. Edit: the verdict of this review has been changed from recommend to not recommend. This is because Space Exploration Pack is out and its tracks are outright better than Neptune's. Buy that one instead unless you want the ships.

Neptune is decent but not great. The gimmick is that there is zero gravity, so when airborne you have to fly your ship like a plane and pitch up and down rather than letting gravity do its work. There is a great deal of freedom in when and where you would like to land, and parts of the tracks can be skipped entirely if you choose not to land. (There are boundaries to the levels though so you can't go too far off course) However it also means that the track builders are very lazy, as large portions of the tracks are empty space. Aesthetics wise I find this to be one of the more beautiful areas because of the planetary ring in the background and the red and blue lighting scheme.

The other part of the DLC, the Buran team, is underwhelming. This team is an amalgamation of Conqueror and Asera, having good top speed, energy (but not as good as those 2 teams above) and durability, but bad acceleration and grip. In my opinion it just ends up being a worse version of Asera, since its bad grip means you will either hit the fence or have to break on turns, but it also has bad acceleration so you don't recover that speed quickly afterwards. Asera solves that problem by having the best energy, but Buran gives that up in favor of higher top speed, which doesn't matter anyway when Asera can boost. I also find their ship designs to be hideous, like if Redout were a movie or TV show the villain would definitely be using Buran (they are Chinese and Russian so stereotype dictates they be the bad guys anyway, but I digress), but that's just a personal opinion.

But I think the maps are worth the asking price on its own, and can tentatively make a recommendation. (not any more) Space Exploration and Back to Earth are both better DLCs if you don't have them already (although they don't have new ships).. Zero Gravity when not touching the track, totally require new skill to get drifing around, oh watch out for asteroids, satellite, and props when you are travelling or you die. A caveat:
Haven't unlocked the other tracks. But the first one in Neptune, Mobeus, already feels better than the first Europa track...

The new vehicle Buran is hilarious. A mix between Koeniggswerth and Conqurer. Hefty, beefy. Drives like a nimble bathtub w/ huge rocket boosters. Energy regen kinda stinks, though, but you can't have 'em all. (Looking at you, Sulha, the greased aluminum can rockets...)

The soundtrack is ridonkulous. Makes the subwoofers very happy. Woof.. The Neptune DLC pack is a remarkable, must-have addition to an already sublime racing experience. These tracks push the boundaries of Redout’s track design and physics engine, providing a unique racing experience that still fit comfortably within the game’s scope and mechanics.

Plenty of racing games throw in outer space tracks as a sort of aesthetic novelty, but Redout FULLY commits to the idea, giving us tracks that not only are set in space but fully embrace the lack of gravity and gravitas of the surrounding scene. In each of the five included circuits, the tracks are designed to give the player more and more time in literal zero-g spaceflight, concluding with tracks where you actually fly through space, hopping from track section to track section.

It’s thrilling stuff, made all the better by the great orchestral additions to the soundtrack and incredible vistas of seeing the huge blue planet of Neptune looming across the horizon. They’ve also added a bunch of new career mode events, which are alone worth the price of admission.

In short, BUY THE DLC!
. Just a heads up for newcomers, unlike the VERTEX maps, the Neptune packs are all locked way up in the career events. Really not a fan of locking DLC content behind progress but that's how it is now.

The maps themselves lift the game, but if you're new it's going to take a while to even see the content.. Pros:
DLC gives you access to 5 new tracks in brand new Neptune Environment. They are all in zero gravity and cut from time to time which makes you fly in space for a while. Idea and graphics are absolutely fantastic! DLC is challenging and track called "drifting" became my new favorite one. New ships are well balanced with new combination of core statistics so they do not give you an unfair advantage over the other ships but also wont stay behind if used right. Package of liveries for every singe ship is also a really nice touch.

Cons:
However from 5 new tracks only 3 are truly well design. Those called "Red Giant" and "Asteroids" are sadly not protected from "cheating" by flying over the track practically allowing players to skip harder parts of the lap. "Asteroids" luckly has only one spot that can be skipped that way on "S" turn where you can just fly close to the checkpoint without any problem. This is a nice trick for time attack but in race mode it is just unplesent especially that bots cant do this trick. [I hope this "S" turn will be patched soon.] Unfortunately I dont think there is hope for "Red Giant" since you can skip almost the whole secound half of the track and even if you dont skip it this track its still just short and boring since it is solely based on slalom and "U" turns. Also it has a chance of blocking your way close to the end of lap which makes you lose at least a second or two on needless maneuvering but it can also sametimes be quicker to just crash and respawn. (time attack hell and really unfair in race mode)

Summary:
Despite "Red Giant" being the only downside of this DLC the rest of it feels amazing and I strongly recommend it to everyone that wants to play Redout in a new way without gravity or just have fun with new ships.. This piece of DLC for Redout brings a set of maps that focus on aerial flight in a zero-g environment. The base game is fantastic, and while the tracks in this DLC look nice and have a nice soundtrack (a grandoise orchestra accompanies these sets of tracks), I feel like the gameplay isn't what I want out of Redout. I feel like controlling your craft in the air was the weakest part of the base game, and since this DLC demands you be off the track quite a bit, a lof of what this DLC has to offer I don't like. This is coupled by on a couple tracks there are things nearby the track rotating onto the track itself in a way to block it completely. While the rotating bits are NOT RNG (they start in the same position and rotate at the same speed), more than once I've found my path completely blocked, and even with extreme evasive maneuvers I've either hit the object itself, or have done so much maneuvering that I either hit the wall of the course itself or miss the portal that leads immediately after this spinning object.

I've also found that the camera hinders you at times while flying in zero-g; a couple times my craft had shifted in the way of being able to see ahead of myself, or below my craft (I use the slightly more zoomed out third person view when playing). Both of these tend to result in missing where the track picks back up and ends up with me hitting the wall of the course. To make things even worse, the game is very unforgiving with regards to missing these "jumps," often putting you back at the start of the jump rather than plopping you right at the end, even if you've barely missed where the track picks up. A missed jump can have you go from first with a bit of a lead all the way to 7th.

About half the events associated with the DLC tracks in the campaign mode are also the type that ends the event as soon as you've blown up. I've never been a fan of these types of events, and these tracks, with their many, many opportunities to die from falling off the course, means that you will need to run the track perfectly and FAST to even hope to get a gold (compared to the base game, the time required to get gold is much harsher).

Functionally, there is nothing wrong with this DLC pack. It looks and sounds great, and the new craft manufacturer is neat as well. However, I feel the style of the tracks in this DLC pack don't play to the strengths of Redout, and aren't nearly as fun as the tracks of the base game.. Very fun and small enjoyable DLC for Redout, a good start. The tracks start off rather simple, but are beaming with amazing detail around. The later new stages are much more difficult however. You have to be extremely careful when you hop off the tracks, as the 'low gravity' will punish you heavily. It's something I'm still having much difficulty on, and boy It's a tough one. The setting and music, however, are gorgeous and I love every bit of it. The new team also has a nice good looking ship, and tries to maintain a bit of balance for its traits. Overall, it's a good start and a fair asking price, and I recommend this to those that love and want more out of Redout.
