Development

Our development team is comprised of people who deeply cherish the RPGs of our childhoods.

We began developing Last Dream to be the central element of our decades-running annual RPG Tournament among physics graduates. That is, we started with the sole desire to craft an enduring game that we would personally enjoy.

As Last Dream progressed and over 50 creative individuals became involved, we realized that other people might enjoy our game as well. Now, after investing thousands of collective hours in game development and testing, and after receiving such generous support from the Kickstarter and Steam communities (thank you!!), we present you with Last Dream - the first in a trilogy.

The Last Dream Expansion and Last Dream II are currently in development. Our progress can be viewed here: Last Dream Expansion and here: Last Dream II

If you liked the first Final Fantasy and you are looking for more games with similar mechanics, you will love Last Dream, as I do.
There are a few tweaks and improvements but do not expect anything new on the gameplay side.
It's an ode to FF1 gameplay, with some inspiration and references to FF2 (US numbering).
If their goal making this game was to do the perfect FF1 clone, in my opinion they achieved it!

I really like how the game lets you customize your party like FF1 (with more class choices) but at the same time delivers a strong story like the following FF. I took my time playing this game (on hard, save anywhere) and spent at least 100 hours on it, so I would say it's totally worth the full price. I didn't even complete all side quests, and could try a harder difficulty with different classes, plenty of unlocked achievements, etc. My point is there's plenty of content and some replay value.

Cons:
- Controller support could have been better. Cannot use cross (must use thumb stick), customize options doesn't make sense and when you figure it out it doesn't allow you to choose from all the buttons you would want. So basically you better just learn to use the default mapping, it works though it's a bit unusual (confirm with X, switch characters with start and select instead of triggers...)
- This kind of game is repetitive by nature, and fights can often be either too difficult or too easy. I just want to mention it, it's not really a con because that's what this game is supposed to be.

Pros:
- Customization of start party and levelups
- Customization of difficulty and save settings, for more/less old-school challenge.
- Classic turn based combat
- Awesome music (classic composers remixed on electric guitar: checked!)
- Great story, original and different although inspired by FF.
- A lot of content: side quests, crafting, fishing, arena, etc.. Very great game so many hours to use up in it and over 236 achivements the game reminds me of many elements from the original Final Fantasy such as creating everyone in your party and then farming gold for equipment and skills would play several playthroughs of this game many times cause i love the style of the game if you like old school classic JRPGS give this a try now. Do you long for the old days of rpgs where you simply put together your streamlined party, got equipped, then went looking for adventure? If so you are in for a treat.

Last Dream is just a great open world, non-linear jrpg adventure. It's got: streamlined battle mechanics, classes, skills, equipment, progression and enemies; a good degree of challenge with selectable difficulty options; a fun and rewarding crafting systems; lots of places to explore with a satisfying variety of approaches to take; a wide variety of side quests and mini games; and it even has a rather interesting story that's not all dumped on you at the start.

Highly recommended, ended up being one of my most played games on steam and most played jrpgs period.. NOTE: Full disclosure; I am doing some scripting work on Last Dream now. However, I wrote this review as a regular player, well before I knew I would be working on the game. (END NOTE)

This game is mid-range for most things (graphics, story, music, script, map design). Where it really shines, though, is in the mechanics. A "fuzzy" class system (where many abilities are not unique to a given class) combines with an attribute-awarded level system (where you get "points" to spend upon leveling) results in a very flexible, innovative style of gameplay. If you want 4 white mages, for example, you could conceivably make one into a tank. This focus on variety and custom-tailored heroes makes the game a great deal of fun, and the combat (so far ~4 hrs. in) is balanced.

Other aspects of the game at a glance: lots of hidden secrets; some tile-based puzzles; optional encounters; multiple paths to the same objective; and lots of inspiration from classic RPGs (like FFIX's world map treasures). This game takes a solid, if somewhat lackluster, base RPG and layers onto it a masterwork of mechanics and design. Definitely worth your time.. last dream is a pretty good rpg game
the graphics are pretty good for a rpg it gets a 8.5
the music is by far the best thing to come out of this game.
some of the tunes seen to come out the the sky soundtrack it gets a 9.7
replay there is plenty of replay to get you though it gets a 10.
contols might take some time to get used to it gets a 8.
like i said its a good rpg game recommend
