This story traces the very root of revolution that took place in India to drive the British out circa 1825 to 1875 AD. Sangha is a honest and dedicated employee in the kingdom of Ramgarh, owing allegiance and loyalty to no one except Raja Laxman Singh. When Laxman Singh conditionally permits the British to use the port for trading purposes, Sangha finds out that the British are taking out gold and jewellery and bringing in ammunition, he puts a stop to this. He goes to report this outrage to Laxman Singh, only to find him stabbed to death and he charged with treason and of killing him. Sentenced to death, he escapes and forms a group of revolutionaries who have only one motto - drive the British out of India. This group multiplies into several armies, all united with one slogan - an Independent India.
The British did not give India its independence on a silver platter. Independence was the result of a long and bloody battle. "Kranti" is the story of how two men became soldiers in that battle. Great film with great songs. Have been humming the songs since watching it - check out www.dishant.com.

Saw it when i was young, and bought back a couple of memories, vaguely remember the film but you can never forget the wonderful songs.

The song, 'Zindagi ki na tote lari' was fantastic and very emotional, especially where the fantastic Hema Malini and Manoj Kumar are on the top deck, all wet and crying their eyes out, the picturisation was amazing and you really felt for both characters.

Why did Praveen Babi have such a short role in the film? Definitely recommend the film to others. This movie along with Roti, Kapada aur Makaan is amogst Manoj Kumars best ever! The script by Salim Javed, the music by Laxmikant Pyarelaal, the direction by Manoj Kumar himself and all of the actors (Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, Parveen Babi, Dheeraj Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Prem Chopra, Kunal Goswami, Sulochna and Kamini Kaushal amongst others) are perfect. A lost and found styory set during the independence struggle it just doesn't get better than this. Manoj is really Bharat! Detail : Kamini Kaushal who has been Manoj his screen mom in all the films Manoj made was also in this movie but not as his mom. That role went to Nirupa Roy. And the reason was that Dilip Kumar was playing the role of Manoj his father (the two of them were the leading men in Aadmi also, both in love with Waheeda Rehmaan), and Dilip and Kamini Kaushal had an affair 20 to 30 years before this movie that did not end well. Actually it caused quite a riot in its day because she was a hindu and he a Muslim. Back to the film, all the songs are gems but the best of the lot is Lata and Nitin Mukesh's (father of Neil Nitin Mukesh) Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi, Pyaar Karle Ghadi Do Ghadi
