About This Game

King of Retail is a store management simulation game, where you as the owner of a new store must make the right decisions to make your store thrive and bring you the big bucks. Can you handle the pressure, or will you fail miserably in a big bankruptcy?

As the owner and manager you have a lot of responsibilities on a daily basis.

You must:

Choose the direction of your store

Should it be a Shoe Store for the fashionable type, an Electronics Store for your everyday needs, or a giant Hypermarket that sells a bit of everything? Not everything will work. Trying to sell high-fashion, high-priced items in the poor part of town will not generate endless queues at your register. Will you try to dominate a competitive market, or go in an unexplored direction.

Control the article flow

For an article to be taken home by a customer, a lot of things must be taken care of. First you must select and order the articles. For a delivery to take place, the storage space must be able to receive and handle the delivered articles. The sales area must have the right displays and registers to showcase and sell the articles. Building a good relationship with your suppliers is key to be able to sell their more exclusive items. Oh, and by the way, which article should be the first for your customers to see when they enter your store? The bulk selling jeans, or the hyped silk shirt?

Get people inside your store

Build your reputation among your customers, and make your store the most sought after in town. A good marketing scheme, along with happy customers will work wonders for your income. But don't oversell your idea. If you can't keep what you promise, the customers will leave the store dissatisfied, and nothing ruins a store quicker than unhappy customers.

Please the customer

Create an enjoyable atmosphere for your customers to shop in, and theme your store, so they will know it is YOUR store they have entered. Make sure they receive the help they need, and that the lines for the registers don't grow too long. Manage the in-store marketing, so that both the fashionistas and the discount-hunters knows where to go, and which article to pick.

Manage your personnel

When you have too much on your plate to handle yourself, it might be the time for you to get some staff. Find interesting candidates among the applications. Conduct interviews, get a feel for the person, and decide if they match the role you need taken care of. Negotiate their salary and hire them. Keep them happy, and make sure they are not overworked. A great working climate gives great dedication. But you still need to sort the slackers from the workers. Invest time in the right persons, and train them to become better so when you need a stand-in for yourself, when you move to the next store, you can pick from your own home-grown talents.

Optimize the store

The difference between a good store and a great store lies in the detail. Weed out the poor selling articles, and get more of the good ones. Make sure you don't order unnecessarily many articles, but still enough that you don't run out. Optimize the prizes to increase the income. Find the customer patterns and adjust the opening hours accordingly. Plan an efficient staff schedule, so you don't pay people for doing nothing.

Prepare for big events

Is a VIP coming? Christmas soon? Black Friday? Can you spot the next big trend before anyone else? Adjust your actions according to the events occurring in a dynamic city that changes day by day.

All of this is is just an ordinary day as a store owner.

Fantastic Game so far show's lots of promise, I have waited so long for a retail management game.
i have played for just under 15 hrs and done 3 Career missions and now trying the entrepreneur mode to build up my store,
the level of detail is great, loving that you can place 1 item or fill the hanger\/shelf full so if you wanted a variety of colors on one shelf\/hanger you can.
being from a retail background i like to merchandise a particular way and this allows a lot of creativity.
the customers level of annoying is spot on and love that they say different things when asking for help, as the shop gets busy and you are stocking the shelf's and serving at the till you have multiple customers requesting assistance and trying to get your attention, anyone that has worked in retail sales environment will feel right at home.
the only thing i would like is more time in the morning to fill the shelf's before opening say maybe 2hrs( or maybe configurable start time) also could the delivery's come 15 mins after you arrive rather than 15 mins before you open to give you time to unpack and stockup a little before the customers arrive.

all in all I am loving playing the game and look forward to see the game progress and to the addition of further stock types,
my suggestions would be small & large electronics, computers. would love to put a wall of tv's on display at one end of my store.

-A good foundation for a future game.
-Movement and controls seem smooth
-Have not run into any crashing or issues
-Decent graphics

Cons
-Lack of variety. What there is looks rather lame.
-Customer voices sound like Microsoft Sam.
-Rather steep price for what you get
-Clothing racks seem to have to be rather far places apart.
-poor customization when it comes to characters, only 2 hairstyles, faces, etc.
-Seems extremely hard to make a profit of any kind and no difficulty settings that I can see.

I've been looking for a game like this, but have wanted to see a game with general merchandise or grocery and modding capabilities much like the Sims 2 open for business was. But no game seems to be able to match it. Not very interested in selling clothing but if this game expands with more customization options and items to sell it could be a great game.. A very nice, highly sought after game (to me). I always said that if a game like this comes out, I'd buy it.

On to the good stuff;

1) Very well optimised (in my opinion, depends on your setup).
2) A niche but good and refreshing idea - I've personally been sick of battle royale games dominating the market.
3) I believe this game has been made by one guy..? Not 100% sure but if so, brilliant job!
4) Only encountered one bug\/ glitch so far but a simple return to menu fixed it!

The "bad" ;

1) I don't think the developer's first language is English (due to quite a lot of broken English dialogue) but you can piece it all together and get the idea.
2) Admittedly, the game CAN get a little repetitive, there's quite a lot of micro-management and you currently can only sell clothes and shoes. This is by no means a bad thing, the game IS in early access so I'm looking forward to any future updates!
3) The A.I pathing system for the customers needs a bit of work as, depending on your placement of your clothing racks, the customers end up walking into each other and get 'scrambled' but they've always "fixed themselves".

All in all, a fantastic launch, especially for early access! If you enjoy management styled games where you run your own business, design your whole shop, recruit and fire employee's etc then this game should be great for you.. A very nice, highly sought after game (to me). I always said that if a game like this comes out, I'd buy it.

thanks for all your hard work.. Promising start. Frankly, overpriced game at the moment if you ask me. This early in development, I think this game should be about 3\/4 the price. But, onto the game itself. The current mechanics seem pretty good and there is a lot of potential for a great game in the future, I think. Could use more products, as right now there are only shirts and shoes, but at this time it still provides a few hours of gameplay. I think a calendar could be implemented, to allow you to schedule employees, as the employee system right now can be a pain, as right now you have to check on their needs after every day to see if they need a day off. Plus, the wages don't seem to be based on any currency, so it is hard to tell what is a fair wage for employees. Another relatively minor grievance, many of the objects such as shelves and pallets need to be placed really far apart, which is often quite annoying. But, nonetheless, it is early in development, so a lot of these annoyances can be somewhat forgiven. The game is overall pretty fun for a time, I have been hoping for a good retail management sim for a while, and this might fill that void. In the end, this game has a lot of promise, and with more products, more polish and more game mechanics implemented, I can see it becoming something really good.
