Batman investigates the sudden appearance of "The Judge," a faceless vigilante who battles Gotham City's supervillains with lethal force.
"Judgment Day" is one of the best of the later episodes of "The New Batman Adventures," formerly known as "Batman: The Animated Series." In this installment, character actor Malachi Throne voices "The Judge," a vigilante out to deal "the strong arm of the law" on criminals that have repeatedly abused the system, managing to play "revolving doors" with the courts. He almost fatally disposes of Two-Face, The Riddler, and The Penguin, each saved by the intervention of Batman.

Throne is superb, with his distinctive bass, as are frequent Bat-actors Richard Moll, John Glover, and Paul Williams as the aforementioned villains. Of course, Kevin Conroy provides his stellar work as Batman.

The episode has a very satisfying and quite surprising end, elevating it a 9-star rating. What a great way to end the series, a well written mystery with an awesome twist at the end. It makes you wonder just how long Dent had this third personality, because I don't think it's a recent addition to his psyche. It kind of has elements from "Read My Lips" to it, you really see how unstable Dent's mind is, and it was pretty unstable already. I'm pretty sure that Judge is exclusive to the show and not the comics, that would explain why I didn't know the twist right away. I'm kind of glad that he is an exclusive though, it gives the show an extra bit of flair, like when "Batman: The Animated Series" had it's own origin of Two-Face, it had something to call it's own.

Well folks, that's two animated Batman series down, and I think I'll only be able to get to one more before the Bat-a-thon ends. I'll still be putting up a "Best" and "Worst Episodes" list as well as reviewing the series as a whole, so I'm still not going anywhere.
