The season 2 opener for Dominion is fantastic! Another reviewer gave a great plot summary, so I won't be repetitive. Instead, I'll just say this:

Dominion feels more like a big-screen blockbuster than a TV show. It has it all... an epic storyline (created by Vaun Wilmott), amazing visual effects (by SPIN VFX), a brilliant musical score (by Bill Brown), and beautiful & talented actors.

Tom Wisdom is magnetic and mesmerizing as the Archangel Michael. Don't even get me started on his sword-fighting skills, lovely British accent and that beach/ocean scene! Three months have passed since the terrible events of season 1 when he abandoned Vega and Alex. He's lost his faith and is desperate to find his way again. He stumbles upon Mallory, Alabama; a small town seemingly protected from the War of Extermination. But how, why, and at what cost, are questions that Michael is determined to unravel. You get the sense that Michael sincerely hopes his Father is there, but is afraid to trust that hope.

Chris Egan plays Alex, the Chosen One, with such charm that it's hard to imagine him in any other role. He's matured a lot since season 1. In this episode, he's confident and determined. He's also got some great humor, sarcasm and some newly developed bad-ass ninja skills. He and Noma (Kim Engelbrecht) make a great team. Gabriel (Carl Beukes) has held them prisoner in his aerie for three months, but a bomb dropped by Vega/Helena gives them the opportunity to escape.

Claire is played by the stunning & brilliant Roxanne McKee. In the start of season 2, we find her conspiring with the Arika (Shivani Ghai)in an effort to defend Vega and herself from the scheming and ruthless, David Whele (Anthony Stuart Head). The struggle for power in Vega is sure to be a riveting story this season.

All of the actors are simply gorgeous. Dominion has eye-candy aplenty. But in case that's not enough, there's just about everything else: action - check; fights - check; sex - check; political intrigue - check; touching moments - check; mystery - check; romance - check; humor - check; things blowing up - BIG CHECK.

If Sci-Fi is your thing, you'll definitely love Dominion! If not, see above.

Season 1 is great, and it helps to start there, but I don't think that's a requirement to enjoy Season 2. Seriously...watch it! Set some three months after the events of the Season 1 finale, Heirs of Salvation gets Season 2 off with a bang. This episode weaves between the stories of Alex and Noma, the Archangel Michael, and Claire and David and Arika.

Having spent the past 3 months essentially prisoners in Gabriel's aerie, while Gabriel pushes Alex to translate the tattoos for him, an unexpected attack on the aerie allows Alex and Noma to escape and they strike out for New Delphi, stopping along the way to fight off a horde of 8balls in an abandoned school and for Alex to perform what appears to be an unexpectedly successful eviction.

Michael, meanwhile, has exiled himself and wanders alone, haunted by his loss of control and the violence he inflicted at the end of Season 1. He comes across a strange little town called Mallory which, despite appearing undefended, is left alone by the 8balls. The town's leader, Laurel, explains to him that God protects the town as long as the pyre in the town square remains lit. Michael is clearly intrigued by the town's faith and perhaps hopes to find his own redemption there.

Back in Vega, Claire Riesen is Lady of the City and, with the support of Arika of Helena, is trying to resolve the inequalities of the V system. Fighting her every step of the way is the unscrupulous David Whele. But even whilst scheming against Claire, Whele also has his own demons to fight, and is haunted by visions of his son William, who he abandoned in the desert.

The episode packs a lot in, switching between the three main locations/groups of characters, and still managing to develop and pay off each of the different story lines. There is plenty of action, with epic sword fighting scenes and running gun battles, and moments of quieter contemplation where we see the characters dealing with their own personal struggles and issues. There is also intrigue aplenty, in particular the question of exactly what is happening in Mallory, and the introduction of the mysterious New Delphi.

All in all, a very enjoyable, fast-paced episode that sets the scene nicely for Season 2.
