Do you know nearly 40% of worldwide steel production is from recycled steel? In America alone, 42% of crude steel is recycled. Steel and iron are the most recycled materials in the world. They are sorted through the magnet and resell to salvage yards. Metal recycling is millions of dollars market in the USA. Every year, around 400 million tons of metal goes for recycling. Metal doesn't lose its property no matter how many times it goes for recycling. The key feature makes metal useful to reuse again.

Why Recycled Metals?

Metal is a valuable material that we get naturally. Its limited usage is necessary so that the next generation can use metal. Like coal, metal is also on the verge of extinct. It is the foremost reason metal goes for recycling.

Raw metal or virgin raw emits more carbon dioxide and other harmful gasses. So, it impacts the environment. On the other hand, recycled metal emits less carbon dioxide. Thus, it saves money in production and allows manufacturing businesses to reduce their production costs.

Recycling has allowed many people to do a scrap business. For many, it is a part-time job to supplement their income. Many people have opted for it as a full-time work opportunity.

Types of Metals

There are various types of metals. They are divided into mainly two categories-ferrous and non-ferrous. Ferrous metals are those that have carbon, Some ferrous metals are alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and wrought iron. Non-ferrous metals include copper, aluminum, zinc, and tin. Some other precious non-ferrous metals are silver, gold, and platinum.

Metal Recycling Process

Metal goes for recycling through various steps.

Collection

A slave yard is associated with man companies like MNCs, manufacturers, and petroleum companies to collect metals. Many scrap dealers work closely with a salvage yard.

Sorting

Once a huge amount of collection of metals is accomplished, the separation of metals from the mixed scrap is performed. It is done manually and with the help of machines. Magnets and sensors are used to separate ferrous from non-ferrous.

Shredding

In this process, metals are shredded into small pieces so that it can turn into a square shape metal bars after melting. During this process, a large cutter is used along with a magnet so that the rest ferrous items can separate from non-ferrous.

Melting and Solidifying

Metal goes for the melting process at a certain temperature and later it is cool down to turn into a metal bar. It is then transported to the manufacturing unit.
