Great retro-style 2D action-adventure with call backs to classic franchises!. Blossom Tales Review Many games try to create the same look and feel of Zelda but fall far of the mark. Blossom Tales is thankfully not a flash in the pan game. The art style is great and different with it blown up overly large square pixel are that still manages to convey the cute and playful style of a Zelda Like game. Lighting is another key feature of this game that gives off the glow of touches and sun beam, even the gloomy atmosphere of the dungeons and swamp area is nice. The sprite animation is good too, because with the limited space for animation due to the size of the sprites the designer still manages to make it seem very real and relatable with the emotion and action portrayed well not needing the Japanese trop of action bubbles. Sound is a big thing in this game having a meaty heft yet colourful humour at the same time. What I mean is that the sound are reminiscence of the old 16-bit games of yore where the sound are similar to the ting and crashing from that time but been expanded on and given reverbed and greater sound scape to give the sound effects a realism of their own. Music is great as well having a feel for the great Zelda tunes but making the tune their own. So, at times you will be playing and humming the tunes and thinking this sounds so like Zelda, nice compilation. Getting to the simple point of it the game is fun. Zipping along with a sword and shield facing all the challenges that the world has to offer. But like all games of this type you have a list of quest to finish in order to complete the game. The king is in a magical slumber that can only be broken from collecting three special items to make a potion to break the curse. So off you go beating bosses and collecting stuff. The twist is that this is story being told by Grandpa to his two grandchildren who frequently talk during the game also inject opinions that are funny and add a real difference to the game play.. For the asking price, it's a good game. It's basically a lighter version of the old SNES Zelda. My play time to complete the game took 9 hours, and I was pretty thorough about finding stuff as I only missed a few heart container pieces. The game's difficulty for me was a bit on the easy side as I didn't die a single time during those 9 hours. I find that there's a generous amount of hearts and the damage the player takes is pretty low, plus they load you up with all sort of healing potions and revival items you can find along the way, which I also never used at all. The map is decent size and despite the the descriptioon of the game, there are only 4 real dungeons. The tutorial dungeon is so short and easy it's a bit of a stretch to count it for anything. Despite that though, there is a lot to see and do, and every screen in the games decent size world has some sort of hidden things to find. If you were to rush through the game you would miss out on a ton of the charm of the game. The game also tells you where to go next, which I didn't like, but some may be thankful for. From a gameplay perspective, it plays very well. As a keyboard player, I found the controls to be exactly the buttons I would have wanted to them to be right out of the gate. The music has a hint of homage to Zelda, but also has some really nice chip tune tracks that are quite catchy. All that being said, if you enjoy the gameplay of the old-style top down Zelda games, you will like this game.. I came here after seeing Jim Sterling's video on this game. Great game for fans who are craving an NES or SNES style Zelda game, or if you're a fan of the retro 6 and 18 bit style. Some the puzzles are repetitive and sometimes frustrating. The best parts of this game are the dungeons, and I wish there were more of them. It's pretty clear this game takes inspiration from the Zelda classics, and is proud of it. Yet, there's enough originality in here to distinguish it from other similar games. The style is cute and fun.. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BROKEN GAME> Game worked fine till thy updated it in Feb 2018, now it never launches for me, and I can't refund due to time in game, and it's been more than 2 weeks since i bought it. Devs have no answer, nor a fix, nor a beta path to try - they have literally no answers, they direct users to send support emials - seems like they never respond to anyone, though. I'd like to see the devs fix this untik then , big fat thumbs down, stay away from this broken game.. The first dungeon in this game has as many puzzles as all of Link to the Past combined, and a tile floor puzzle you get stunlocked into losing to by enemies with teleporting attacks. Minor enemies take too long to kill, and you move so slow some of their attacks are isnanely hard to dodge. I feel sorry for whoever suffers through this.. I'd give this game a 7/10. I wouldn't really necessarily recommend it to other people to play, but it's an ok game. As everyone else says, it is an utter Zelda: Link to the Past clone, but it has a much less compelling and less interesting storyline. None of the maps/dungeons in the game really feel like puzzles so much as just walking through linear paths. There are like 4 different puzzle "themes" that the game has you do over and over, all of them simplistic. It doesn't really present any very interesting fights either that feel like a challenge. It's mostly just a zen walkthrough of SNES reminiscence. On the plus side, the game boy emulated music is pretty good.
