This is my first review and English is not my first language, so sorry for any mistakes. Beyond eden is a pretty dark bl game centertered around Alex Wake, a man who dedicated his life to revenge. If you enjoy dark, twisted stories with manipulative, disturbed, cold-hearted, but not entirely unsympathetic protagonist, you probably will enjoy this game as much as I do. Now about the things I liked and didnt like about this game. Pros: +The main character is so unique and for me, a person who is sick of docile goody two shoes or misunderstood antiheroes, playing as a confident, smart and manipulative protagonist was like a breath of fresh air. +Writing is pretty good. R*pe is treated as r*pe and unhealthy relationships are not presented as healthy. + Almost every character in this game is full of flaws and that makes them perfectly human and relatable. + CGs are pretty. + Music is good and suits the atmosphere of the game. +Voice acting during s*x scenes is super intense. Cons: - The only thing I didnt like about the writing is the excess of r*ape scenes ( some of them were , in my opinion, unnecessary) and rather abrupt ending of good endings. - Translation needs to be edited (lots of typos and a couple of missing words). - Backgrounds are kinda plain and dull (maybe the artist meant them to be that way, idk). And guys, I must mention that the majority of relationships in this game are not healthy. The most vanilla routes are Lawrence and Jeremy (who is not really romanceable), so I wold not recommend this game to you if you are not into dark stuff. My personal rating for this game is 8,5/10.. Beautiful - a beautifully dark plot with an antihero protagonist and well-written characters with one of the best plots and writing I have ever had the great opportunity to read! The voice acting was excellent and the art was perfect to me if a bit flawed at times. Anyway it's a great game and I can't wait to finish it. Plenty of replayability with a bunch of endings. It seemed short but I only played 1 of 17 endings. My only complaint is that it seems kind of short for each ending and I like longer routes especially for the high price but I don't care that much.. I can't sing the praises of this BL visual novel highly enough! This is the first visual novel I have actually ever played and oh boy, has it set my standards high! Beyond Eden is such an absorbing and addicting experience. When I first started playing I found myself almost instantly fixated and couldn't stop playing for many hours. The character dialogue and the intricacies in the characters personalities is all so diverse and well written. I really felt like I had made a connection/bonded with the characters after learning about their personalities, history and what makes them tick. So far I have completed Joshua's romantic ending, and it has made me one very happy fudanshi.. Really loved the darkness of the plot at some points. Would absolutely recommend. Still thinking about this quite often and wish I could play it again for the first time.. one of the best bl of this freaking place. artwork is completely gorgeous, the voices are amazing too. beware for non-con, dont play if you dont feel comfortable with that. the story is nice too, you learn a bit more of it in each route. i loved this game, i want more.. Holy , Beyond Eden (first ever visual novel I spent money on. I played DramaticalMURDER + its extra content & the first Silver Chaos + Silver Chaos Fantasia, on pirated copies do to being a poor teenager at the time.), if that game was ing (hehehe) book, I would proudly display it on my bookshelf, despite it being an homoerotic x novel. Granted I only did one ending so far called The Two Bullets, but damn was it engaging! Even if the fact that you are. Ahem. Engaging in unwanted sexual acts with the guys (you play as the antagonist in the game, your obviously a horrible person that only cares about his own goals. Even if you resist, in the end your still the bad guy, I personally found the story more interesting playing as a sly . But, rememberis bad mkay?), but anyway, the story itself is great even if those interactions were only implied or replaced with something else just as threatening to the characters. Hey, even if you dont like guy on guy action, the plot of the novel is still worth it and the Steam version is censored. (As in you dont seeor s, the worse you might see is a bare chest withsplattered somewhere and a blow job with the perspective showing nothing but a guy kneeling in front of the MC.) It was about $39 CND and comes with 2 DLCs: the soundtrack for about $11 CND and a digital Art Book for about $6 CND. I only got the novel and the music. Only issue I saw so far is a few translation errors and instances where the narrator/characters would say/repeat their own name in the text when they obviously ment to say "Alex". That made me loose focuse a couple of times, but is forgivable. Unlike Alex's hate/possible insanity.. I personally recommend this game 100 percent, trigger warning though for some very dubiously consensual sexual scenes and sometimes straight up If you are sensitive about that you should probably not play this game. That is not all this game is though, and that is why everyone else should give it a shot. The story is complex and every route you play through gives you one more piece of the puzzle of what exactly happened here all those years ago that twisted the main protagonist into this vengeance driven hate filled person. The music is awesome, the art is beautifully detailed. Two things tho, sometimes there is like five-ten seconds of silence between every music loop and it can feel very jarring, bringing you out of the immersion. A very minor thing I know, but it was just something that I picked up on that bothered me. Secondly, the sentences are sometimes awkwardly worded and probably not the best translated, and there are some misspelled words and sometimes they post the exact same sentence two times in a row, but it's all minor flaws and barely distract from the story, if at all.. A complex and intriguing story, beautiful sprite/CG art, and real erotic heat mostly make up for weak background art and (especially) an awful translation. Studio Pieplus: please, please, please have a native English speaker edit your next translation! It's not just that the language is stilted; there are places where the translator wrote literally the opposite of the meaning of the original line. You're asking too much for this game to offer something so unprofessional in this respect.. Even if I really love BL games (and wish for more BL games to be available on Steam). I just can't recommend "Beyond Eden". But at first let me say what I liked about it: + the music isn't something to remember but it sounds good and soothing + the characters voices are relaxing and they sound professional + the art is really lovable (and oh how I love some of the pictures) + there are very different love interests to pick from + the protagonist can be both seme or uke based on the route/choices + if you like 18+ scenes. well there are many to choose from Nevertheless. now for the reasons why I am disappointed after playing the game: - the protagonist (Alex Wake) is simply an . I didn't want a sweet and innocent protagonist for a story about revenge but there is just no chance for me to like him. As the player I have to like the main character even a little bit or else I can't enjoy the game - the background story about said protagonist is good and it has some shocking moments but it doesn't justify the things that Alex is doing to his love interests (some of them didn't even do anything wrong to Alex) - I can't understand how some routes are all about Alex rping someone and yet there is still a chance for the choosen character to fall in love with Alex. just how?! - the choices that you have to make while playing are kinda obvious - there should have been more time to talk about the characters and to develop deep feelings between them and Alex - there was so much potential about the story but I have the feeling that it was kinda rushed All in all it was not really worth the money. That's kinda sad because I waited so long for this game. Nevertheless it had some good sides and I am always happy to support visual novels.. I love this game. It's one of my favorites. The story is great. Revenge, love, lust, and mystery.
