In the small Ascension, the constructor Thomas Walsh is working with his team at the Mount Lincoln. Out of the blue, there are tremors and the branch of the tree fall over Thomas' employee and breaks his leg. He brings his truck and finds the man dead. He brings the man to the town and finds that his sister Grace Walsh plans to camp at the mountain with her sweetheart Jerrod Dietrich while their lunatic father William Walsh defends the theory that an ancient being is near to be released on Earth and destruct the planet. Meanwhile, the geologist Emily Allington returns to her hometown Ascension to investigate the tremors. The army representative Jack Murray also comes to Ascension to search a mysterious wallet that was lost on the mountain. Soon the dwellers of Ascension discover the secret of the tremors.
Scientists discover a giant creature under the Earth that is wrapped around the entire planet. When the creature wakes all grumpy, it causes worldwide destruction.
Don't get me wrong, this film definitely had its ups and downs. One of my main issues was just the sorry use of CGI effects, at least in the first half of the film. The acting was actually not too shabby either. Certainly not the best acting I've ever seen, but it really wasn't as bad as it could have been. Being a monster lover, I can really appreciate the design of the creature itself. It is outrageously large. I was impressed by its design later on when the full creature is revealed. For a Syfy original, it was a beautiful creature. Overall, This film was no masterpiece, but it was a refreshing burst of air if you've seen some of the other rubbish that Syfy has created in the past.
This movie is not as bad as it is made out to be. First off it is surprisingly well shot, and the scenery is beautiful. Secondly, this is a B movie. It didn't have a huge budget, and it shows. That's all right though; it is what it is, an old school monster movie. My main complaint is that not enough people got eaten by the monster. Some people have complained about the cgi. I've seen much worse animation, especially in older movies. The animation used was perfectly acceptable. This movie isn't the best nor is it the worst, though it definitely deserves better than the appalling 3.4 rating it has.
