A Glimpse into the Highlights of Serendipity Arts Festival, 2019

Having colorfully and successfully completed its past editions, Serendipity Arts Festival is going to celebrate its fourth edition this year. The event is going to take place this year from 15-22 December in Panjim, Goa. The major highlight of the festival this year is that it is going to take place across the 10 venues in Panaji. Being the biggest multi-disciplinary event, it will celebrate the richness of 7 disciplines including visual arts, crafts, culinary arts, dance, music, theater and photography. With this, it will also feature more than 100 immersive projects by over 1500 artists and is aimed at bringing about a concrete change across the nation’s cultural gamut. The event will showcase the importance of how art can impact the society and instill love towards it in hearts.

Highlights of 7 disciplines

  1. Photography- This is one of the most interesting disciplines that will be curated Ravi Agarwal. The artist will make an endeavor to blend in the fiction and reality with his staged photography. The focus will be on different techniques and innovate strategies used to tell a story. With him, Rahaab Allana will highlight his trans-media curatorial project based on aesthetic approach and ideologies to image making.
  2. Music- Curated by Sneha Khanwalkar, the popular music director and Aneesh Pradhan, an artist, this discipline will take a dive into the array of music traditions in India. The festival will host a number of concerts featuring both international and national talent. You will be delighted to witness the cross-currents between technology, space, sound and visuals.
  3. Dance- Highlighting the rich traditional dance forms of India, this discipline will be curated by Mayuri Upadhya and Leela Samson. Note that Leela Samson’s projects are strong enough to move the audience with its emphasis on gender and identity. Further, Mayuri Upadhya will bring about the power of imagination through dancing and storytelling.
  4. Visual arts- The arts discipline will savor the curation of Sudarshan Shetty whose main focus is on production of innovation that takes place outside the arena of mainstream institutions. No doubt, it will be a treat for the lover of visual arts.
  5. Theater- The very popular stage artists Arundhati Nag and Atul Kumar will curate the theatre performances in the festival. The performances will be interactive in nature and will make use of alternate spaces. They will aim at exploring the idea of ‘Home’ and will also introduce the infants and toddlers.
  6. Craft- The curator Pramod Kumar will here inspect the making of Jamdani fabrics including the type of raw materials used, patterns, choice of weaving style, designs and will get into the details of it. Kristine Michael, another curator will further talk about the artistic modernism in glass making practices and modern ceramics in India.
  7. Culinary arts- This discipline will be curated by Prahlad Sukhtankar and Rahul Akerkar. It will explore the different aspects of sustainable living and will hold different workshops featuring regional flavors.

Besides the 100 projects, the festival will also feature a few special projects that are well curated by Harkat Studios, Nancy Adajania, Aradhana Seth, HH Art Spaces, Vidya Shivadas and others.
