Sadly, as a methodical assassin has been killing off the noble and honourable members of the Sinclair Clan one by one, Brett who is next in line, must find a way to flush him out, of course with the aid of Danny and a stunning Sinclair.
Brett attends the funeral of his uncle Randolph, where his cousin Kate, a crime novelist, tells him that she believes he was murdered. Brett is not convinced but then six more members of the Sinclair family are all bumped off, as well as the family undertaker. It becomes apparent, however, that one of the dead men is not dead after all when he traps Kate and Danny in the family vault. It is down to Brett to rescue them.
Death stalks members of the Sinclair family and it's up to Brett and Daniel to find the murderer. While not a difficult whodunit to figure out, the supporting cast makes this an enjoyable episode.

Ivor Dean, better know for his role of Inspector Claud Eustace Teal in The Saint, plays a minor role as the local undertaker. William Ruston, who had a role in "Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines, is one of Brett Sinclair's eccentric uncles. Denholm Elliot, who played Marcus Brody in the Indiana Jones movies, plays Brett's cousin from Australia. Roger Moore helps to round out the supporting cast with portrayals of other members of the Sinclair line. His role as Brett's hard-of-hearing aunt is fun to watch. Writer Terry Nation apparently set out to create his own version of "Kind Hearts and Coronets" in this episode, where Roger Moore plays several members of Brett Sinclair's family.

Unlike with some other movies, like "The Wrong Box" and "The Assassination Bureau" (popular flicks of the era) the deaths are not particularly amusing (apart from one set in Scotland).

Roger Moore is very good at what he does, but when he ventures into Alec Guinness territory he's all at sea. The only convincing alter ego in this episode is when he dons a dress to play a female member of the family (strangely, brother to Willie Rushton).

An all-star episode featuring the likes of Roland Culver and Denholm Elliott, "A Death in the Family" ends with a surprising twist reminiscent of an earlier Tony Curtis flick.
