Stout manual training school

Knapp, Stout & Co. Company closes its operations in the Red Cedar River valley. Dunn County School of Agriculture and Domestic Economy founded, the first agricultural high school in the United States. Senator Stout builds the school of Physical Training, containing a gymnasium and natatorium. The Stout Manual Training School opened Jan. 5, 1891, in a two-story building as a branch of the Menomonie public school system. As course offerings expanded, it became Stout Institute in 1908 and Stout State College in 1955, when it joined the Wisconsin State College System. Funded by Mr. Stout, this was the first school in Wisconsin devoted exclusively to the areas of Stout manual training school; a handbook for planning and planting small home grounds with a list of native and commonly cultivated plants that are represented in the collection upon the Stout manual training school grounds. He then established the Stout Training School in 1903. In 1908, it became Stout Institute, devoted to instructing manual training and domestic science teachers. Throughout his life, Stout guided the development of the school. He helped make it a model for other schools of education, and contributed large sums to provide it with a plant and faculty. James Huff Stout was the son of a local lumber baron. He had an idea worth sharing, and built a world-class manual training school with programs in manual training and domestic science training. He also introduced a kindergarten teacher training school and a school of physical culture.
